Rat Izula folder knife (awesome)

Why would anyone design a knife with a stop pin, especially like this one with the thumb stud so close to the handle front end? Go ahead and save money and make a better knife by using the thumb studs as blade stops.

And how does using the thumb stud as a stop pin make for a better knife?

And just about every thread on the forum can be found in a previous incarnation if you search for it. I guess from now on every new post should just be replied to with past posts on the subject. That sure will make for a fun forum.

Its just this particular thread has been beaten to death and the izula folder is still pretty far off...the links were so the op could read more if he wanted to...

It may have been beaten to death in the RAT forum but there hasn't been much in the general forum. And I'm just saying that just about every post in the general forum has been beat to death before so why not the same practice?

well some things like "is the sebenza that good" or "CRK vs Strider" are subjective, every time some one goes to the ESEE site and sees the izula folder they post a thread here saying they are very excited, even though it is far off. i posted those threads to prove a point, and also for the OP to read up. and if they dont look in the ESEE forum to see if a previous thread was posted i think that is more or less there fault. no point in having a lot of threads on the same exact thing

in lots of the threads that have been talked about, theres always that,"here we go again:rolleyes:" post...and always lots of links to past threads...sure stuff comes up over and over but like gunny said, every time some one see it on the site they post a thread hahah...and there really isnt any updates...just saying...i mean theres no harm in the OP but he just gave to links as a resource...

I just did a search and there have been 2 threads in the General forum specifically on the Izula folder and this is one of them. Not what I would call beat to death at all. I guess I just don't see dismissing someone's question with a bunch of links and a comment about 'just what we need, another thread on the topic' as being helpful.

Whatever.

I can see your point...it may have been a bit harsh...my mistake

eh i dont think it is that harsh, i should have used the "beating a dead horse" smiley, even if he is a registered user, he can still search. like you said w/e

Looks to be a great little folder, and I really like the framelock design, they can count me in for one.

And how does using the thumb stud as a stop pin make for a better knife?

It does make it better, actually. Using thumbstuds as the stop pin on a framelock make it a better knife because it is stronger and more resistant to torquing force, thereby reducing the chances of the lock disengaging or the knife otherwise failing. Just look at the XM-18. I quote from Hinderer's website: "The fact that the thumb stud locks up against the frame adds an incredible amount of strength to the sideways torque of the blade as the sideways stresses are being stopped by the whole handle side, thus relieving the stress that would normally be put on the pivot."

Meh... I'm not buyin it. Other than Rick Hinderer saying so, I haven't heard or seen any proof that the thumbstuds acting as the stop is better than an actual stop pin. Lateral force on a folding blade is bad no matter whether it's a stop pin or the thumbstuds stopping the blade.

from the prototype pic it looks like it has a standard stop pin. also nothing is for certain with this.

You know if you see someone like me post a topic that you think has been dicussed to much. Why dont you just bypass that partucular post and read another one but because you felt the need to go on and on about about how I should have did some research to see if this has been talked about before. If nobody would have cared to talk about it this thread that you think has been talked about to much it would have just drifted away and nobody would have posted a comment on it. So I guess thanks for getting this thread 35 responses.:D .

No problems man. I love talking about cool new folders that are coming out. It stokes my addiction!!!

You have to develop a thick skin around this place.

I too cannot wait to give this folder a try. I agree that using 1095 instead of d2 for the blade steel would make it an even more unique folder but d2 is a very tough tool steel and holds an edge like a mad mofo so why not. Hopefully it will be done sometime in the near future.
