RAT Pack Kit

cool-the rat pack will be here wed or so, and dont have a feel for its size yet. hard to tell from pix what you see until its in yr hands. just thinking ya know. and the jumbo is also in transit. so my minds churning how to set em both up.

I just attached my RP kit to my Jumbo for a mock up. There's really only one place to attach it and that's on the small side pocket. As TTD said, it would be a lot of stuff hanging off your neck (which is my complaint about the Versipack istelf, even with just the standard pockets filled). You'll like both items when you get them.

I still need to get need to get one of these buggers. I want to modified pouch to fit on the thigh as a drop down rig, but I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to go about it.

You could thread the molle straps down tight and snap them. Then run a loop of paracord/webbing horizontally around the molle straps. Then make a vertical belt loop out of webbing. Then make a leg tie-down out of paracord and tie it to the molle webbing on the back of the straps. Done and done. You owe me 5 bucks. :D

I think someone makes molle drop down leg setups. Know that's useless, but Ive seen em. I've tried it on my maxped, didn't like it. Didn't make sense to toss a low fat psk on a high fat psk. I took six strands of paracord and braided a sling for my rat pack. Works great

I started to make a braided shoulder strap for mine as well, but ended up undoing it. It's a good way to carry a useful length of paracord. Snap a pic if you get around to it, I'd like to see it.;)

Ok soon as I get all this junk unloaded I'll get some pics up. I took six long strands, and did a simple triple braid of two strand pairs. Then I looped it around, and did a 12 braid for a few inches, knoted it, then melted all the ends into one

I have been looking into a different solution. I found a molle drop leg platform and will attach a RAT-4 probably and then try finding a pouch of some sort to put over the top of the knife. Will have to see how it works out.

Yeah, hadn't really thought of the leg platform. I've never been big on gear hanging off my leg. Something like this would do it.

Sweet, thanks Diz. What I didn't like about mine was that it wasn't as thick as I wanted, doubling over the strands might fix that. Might give it a whirl....

yea, i've gone as high as three strands before, but the double seems a good balance for the kit.

I ran one of these in Iraq for my 203 rounds and grenades. It was great because you could just unclip it and set it it down, no undoing your belt. Kept the belt loop on all the time, just clipped it on then threw the strap around my leg. Good piece of gear!

Thats what I was thinking. A quick and easy way to take it off and put it back on. Hopefully I'll be able to get everything soon to try it.

ordered the rat pack kit thurs afternoon, mike said it shipped friday. found it on my porch today!
yes its true rats fly-er esee knives fly that is
nice pack with good kit, but of course ive gotta make it my own.
what to add what to add......

have to agree with adaman
tho i am really pleased with the kit, im just not feeling the love for the sheath setup.
quik easy fix. pm'd shotgunner about a sheath with a loop for the sharpener. its small but i used it to put a fresh edge on the knives in my pockets(they were sharp but now they are really SHARP) its a keeper.

now for figuring out a shoulder strap. have a feeling thats how i will end up using. have several old straps off messenger bags with a short pad...oughta do the trick.
(will still have to figure a way to attach to that jumbo when it arrives-you know how it is-gotta try it for myself...)thanks all.

Glad you got your kit sadie. I like the sheath inside the kit just fine, but I wanted the option of a regular sheath if I only wanted to carry the knife. A sheath with a loop for the shapener on one side and a firesteel loop on the other would be sweet. Hmmmm. I think I'm going to follow Dizwolf's lead and give my paracord strap another try. I've even seen flat braids that look like a shoulder strap. We'll see.

the beginning of my own rat pack kit
will post pix of contents when i get it like i want it
still need to round up a few items
its all somewhere in this house i swear
did find a shoulder strap im liking
