RAT Pack Kit

Sweet! I made a braided sling for mine last night, similar to what Diz posted. I'll snap a pic tonight if I get a free moment. Cord from Supply Captain matches the khaki pack great and it's a great way to carry 35 feet of cord in one piece.

Yeah, hadn't really thought of the leg platform. I've never been big on gear hanging off my leg. Something like this would do it.

That's a really good idea.

Don't forget to take off the top leg strap, if you are a dude. Many young men discover the hard way, after lifting their knee to their chest to climb something, the danger of that top strap. Ladies need not worry so much.

+1, I usually take the top strap off all my drop legs systems, not this one however, because I wore so much other gear that I wore this lower than I would a holster. It just depends on what height you wanna run it. Attach your gear to it strap it on, try to access all your gear, adjust as needed, remove straps as neeeded.

Anyone know if it will fit in a cargo pants pocket?

Not unless you have some monster pockets. I mean, it could probably fit, but that’s a lot of awkward weight to carry in a leg pocket, IMO. Plus the knife hanging out. I don’t have it with me or I’d measure it.

I wish they'd ship overseas! :(

They will, you just need to call or email them. The Buy button on the site figured US shipping. International is a little different. One of our French members bought like 10 of them. :D

It'll fit in a cargo, but I'd imagine that a poor way to carry. It. Too heavy loaded out

Here's my sling I made. Single piece of paracord, about 36 feet of it.

This will probably be my next ESEE purchase. I want an ESEE-6 and I might as well get the whole pack when I do.

Very nice work Adam. I'd be keen to see some close up shots of the way you tighten everything together in the end. Did you take pics of that too?

Yeah on second thought that would be a lot of weight and a bit awkward. Thanks.

Yes, I would like to see that, too. Maybe it's my monitor but it looks like there are some black clips right where the paracord loops around the molle strap? It appears very dark on my monitor.

I really like the idea!

There goes Adam, being all fancy and stuff. Nicely wrapped.

Yeah I thought of the idea all by myself. :D [Runs away]

Heck Diz, I thought you did yours all in one piece. Either way, thanks for the idea, haha.

I just snapped some pics that show how I did it and I will post them when I get back. I gotta meet the father in law to help him move some furniture. Yipee!

As promised....

Okay, I took the paracord and pulled out arm span lengths and laid it out on the floor in a snake patten as shown. Essentially each "U" shape leg of the cord is used as a single strand for the braiding process. I used a binder clip to hold the ends togehter and loosedly braided it. Now, it is a bit of trial and error. I found that 6 foot lengths hang the knife just slightly lower than where it would ride on my belt. This way it is out of the way and not jabbing me in the side, but also not banging on my knees.

As for attachment, once braided, there are loops at the end from where the "U" at the end of each strand is (2 at one end and 3 at the other). I simply looped them over the MOLLE straps and wove the straps as shown in my earlier pics. To keep the cord from unraveling, I used zip ties and a small square knot of paracord. One or the other would probably suffice.

Hope this helps. One that that is nice is that I can unzip the pack and tuck the sling inside if I don't want to mess with removing it, or if I want to remove it, I can just take it off. I toyed with the idea of using split rings etc for easier removal, but I'm happy with it as is.

Naw I made mne out of 6 strands. Gonna try the single peice this weekend. The way mine is fused it's a pain in the ass to take apart
