So I have been looking at the ratmandu for a while. Thought I got my hands on the perfect version when I purchased a infidu with black and orange handles but I still felt like something was missing. So I bought a rat off the exchange. It had a chip in the blade but 20 mins on the worksharp and it was gone. The blade feels great and is just plain silly sharp! It feels better in the hand then my infidu maybe due to slight dif in the weight but I can't wait to take a hike and see what the rat can do.

The RMD feels a tad thicker than the Infidu to me. Because of the coating on the RMD I suppose. Congrats on picking up the legend!

It's by far my favorite fixed blade. If they every discontinue it I'll buy multiples.

Looking at buying a custom with the black finish and black/blue g10 handles. Busse makes awesome handles and the black/blue looks great on my sob so I figure why not ... It is only money after all and you can't take it with you

Well, you guys just pushed me over the edge on one. I was going to say I'm irritated by the peer pressure, but that's not true. :)

Seriously, Jerry's SR101 (52100 with a superb heat treat) is an amazing alloy (tough, strong, takes and holds a stupid sharp edge, sharpens easily) and the RMD has one of the most comfortable handles I've ever experienced. I'd be surprised if you don't end up loving it.

I've only heard praise for it, so I'd be surprised, too. Shame on me for waiting so long. I'm stoked!

You guys are killing me. I just bought one. It should arrive on Monday. I hate wishing a wkend away but....

I'm not surprised you waited this long. After all, look at your signature. But I'm telling you, once you turn to the Busse side, there's no going back. ;) Here's a little light reading on the RMD's progenitor to keep you warm:

The Beckerheads like great tools on the cheap, but I think the price of the RMD is completely fair. It might be a while before I shell out for a TGLB, but I've already spent ~$250-280 on a few, so it's not too much of a jump from that point.

Thanks for the link - interesting for sure.

"If someone told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?"

Yep! With wallet and fixed blade in hand the whole way down!

I might get in trouble here, but I'd suggest that INFI is not worth the delta it commands over SR101. IMO, INFI's only real advantage over SR101 is corrosion-resistance. Use a little common sense in the way you handle your fixed-blades and that all but obviates INFI's primary advantage. For the best bang-for-the-buck knives in the Busse world . . . or anybody else's world for that matter . . . stick with SR101. You and your wallet will be glad you did.

Hey, I appreciate the honesty and often wondered if that was the primary distinction. I take care of my blades, so I have no need for corrosion resistance. As for the SR101, how well does it work on a firesteel?

Luckily for me money is not too much of an issue... My only hobby is the blade variety. I have a few blade's in infi and they are good but not blow up my skirt so to speak as I was lead to believe.... Where as sr101 is just plain awesome. Granted it gives a little( and I mean very little) in edge holding. Infi does excel in leaps and bounds in corrosion but like previous posts just clean and protect you blade and you should be fine. In the hand the rat feels better then the infidu... Not sure yet if this is due to dif in handle material. G10 vs micarta is a big dif but usually g10 is more comfy for me so I am surprised by the feel of my rat... Looking forward to beating the crap out of it tomorrow.. Wife is going shopping so I am taking the utv for a ride... Pics to follow

The RMD is my favorite production knife ever made, if I want to improve on it I have to go custom.

My favorite configuration is the CG with a saber grind in SR101.
