RatMastiff's should be here soon.....

Arrrggg... Can't do it. Holding out for a Heavy Heart.

If the Battle Rat, Camp Tramp, etc of the initial regular line are gone for good, and this is the replacement, I too am very disapointed. I've been a big fan of Swamp Rat since it's inception, and Busse for quite a while longer, but I don't think that requires worshipful & complete adulation %100 of the time no matter what.
At about 150, the BR was indeed a reasonable cost alternative and one of fine quality. A micarta handle is really not worth a $90 premium to me. I actually prefer the rubbery synthetic handles and wish Busse had em. Now if you could make these for people who prefer the micarta, and still make a batch of the good old stuff now and then for people like me, that would be great.

Please don't leave behind the stuff that made you a great knife company in the first place. Sincerely, Ed Ricketts

From everything I've read, the Rat Mastiff is a one time only. No one from Swamp Rat has said anything about replacing Resiprene C with Micarta either. Just updating designs and diversifying their line-up. One more note, Busse has a Basic line that has these type of handles, but I believe they are only available in the secondary market.

This is not a replacement for anything, I never said it was. This is a limited run of knives that is being handled by the Company Store. I have commented on this before, the limited run knives will not be for everyone and may cost more than the regular production runs because of several reasons (ie size, type of materials, choices of colors)

When the new line is introduced it will be available through the regular Swamp Rat website and it will be available to be ordered through that website.

Once again the Company Store is for limited runs, special runs and test runs of knives that may or may not be for everyone, they may cost more (or less in some cases) to offer more variation for those individuals that want something different than the regular line. At this time we have no intentions of offering this knife again, if you want it buy it, if you don't then it will soon be gone and no one will need to worry about it or it's price again.

We have not changed our mission which is to offer a high performance knife at an economical price. I think the new line will surprise everyone but it might not please everyone, however we feel it is a necessary move to stay in line with our mission.

If you decide to buy the RatMastiff you will not be disappointed. You won't be disappointed with the knife or the price (especially since most of the Company Store offerings are now selling at approx 2.5x more than the original retail less than 10 months after they were offered.)

Stay tuned to this forum for updates on the new line probably to debut sometime in February 2006

I guess Feb will be bitter sweet for me. I have to leave my family for a year (remote to Korea) . Hopefully my Swamprat addiction will divert my tiny mind long enough to provide relief from the pain.

Be sure to stay in touch with me at ratknives@insightbb.com I won't be able to replace your family but I'd be happy to keep you updated on Swamp Rat matters. ;)

BTW, have you heard from Mike since he contacted me? If not drop me a note.

Would you prefer a PM from the swamp or an E-mail to the addy above.

Well, my ninja-stealth team of 14-year old computer geeks is now at the ready. Armed with cat-like, clicker reflexes from years of X-Box play and having memorized my credit card numbers, they are now prepared to execute OPERATION RAT-MASTIFF. Just need to pump them with some more Mountain Dew and Vivarin.

If all goes well, ALL THE RAT-MASTIFFS WILL BE MINE......ALL MINE! Then, it's just a hop, skip, and jump to WORLD DOMINATION.

[evil laugh] Bwaah, hah, hah, hah, hah, hah. [/evil laugh]

Maybe I'll leave a couple of blades for you guys to fight over. :p

I check and answer my emails more often than PM's, but either way would be fine

Email sent, BTW the squirrel hide has been removed from the cardboard sheath so don't let that be a deciding factor:cool: -
Now where are the spy photos of the RM. We need to see size, shape, color... wait that did not sound good. Are there going to be photos available soon? Any super secret squirrel paint jobs?
