RATs and Rangers, who do you like more?

I'm really liking the look of that RC-4. I suppose it's time to start saving my pennies.

Zeke,

You can check them out at www.ratcutlery.com. Being that we're new, we just have the RC-3 (comparable to the RAT 3) available right now. The RC-4 and RC-6 should be available by mid-January. Our focus on this new line is upgrading sheathing, upgrading overall quality, and making sure there is a no questions asked warranty and 100 percent customer service policy in place.

Note to moderators: If this violates any rules by posting up our web site, please remove it and just leave a link to my email address (jeff@ratcutlery.com) in it's place.

Thanks,

Jeff

Man I am digging that RC 3! Maybe after Christmas I can put some money on one. Thanks for the link and nice stuff.

Appreciate the comments!

Anyone who's interested, we have just started a new contest to win a RAT Cutlery knife. We will be giving away at least one knife per month with some months having up to 3 winners. All you have to do to enter is send an email to the right address. See details here: http://www.ratcutlery.com/win_a_rat.htm

D2 does not suck it is just not good in big knives.

Just got this Rat-7 in D2 and rams horn. Giuess we'll have to see how it compares against my 1095 Rat-7. Definately beats it in the looks department. Sheath isn't all that great, but what production leather sheath is?

I like Rats better than Rangers, they don't wear those disturbingly short PT shorts and slap each other on the butt all the time at the gym. :)

I'd go with the Ranger. I'm really fond of the RAT's design, but I'm not convinced by the production. I have a TAK1 (1095), which has seen very little use (just some light wood work for fun) and somewhere along the way a tooth on the serrations chipped off, and the knife seems brittle compared to my 1095 kabar, when I tap it with my finger nail it makes a much higher pitched "ping". That and the sheath liner sucks, it rattles very loudly, is brittle plastic (I cracked giving it a little squeeze), and is glued in tightly so removing for modification will be a bitch.

It's a real shame cause, as stated earlier, I love the design, everything about it really, the handle, the blade profile, the choil is very usable, ect.

Both of these are going to get kydex sheaths so hopefully that will be the only issue to take care of.

Ontario RAT sheaths are not that good but the RAT Cutlery sheaths are the best out there, IMO.

I carried a Strider for a long time on my BladeTech drop rig. A while back we purchased the RC3 from Rat Cutlery and it's replaced my Strider. The scabbard system on the Rc3 is the best we have found for tactical carry in any configuration.
