I am cool with the spike, I just hope that we can have the option to get it without in inside of the 'beard' sharpened.

so how much wood(aka what ever get's in the way) could a rattle hawk crunch?
 
i think there might be a hot spot or two from the bottom of the haft when used for a period of time.
 
now if the bottom grip was a little larger in girth, maby your hand would be more apt to lock in to the grip.
