  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Raymond Richard eye candy

loving this thread!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

A hawk compendium... Ray tried the sculpted handle style after I showed him a pic of J. Szilaski's sculpted handle piece... And they are really comfortable and packable! And without looking, I landed one of the two in the Duo pic...

Hey Joe, You got the larger one? Right...... I should have sold yours to that Frenchman at the Montana show and made you another one.

I just epoxied this knife but it is done other than polishing the blade alittle more and removing the ring nut and peening the tang. This has a 5 1/4" 1095 blade, wrought iron half guard with iron butt cap. Color change I need to take care off. The handle is zebra wood that I soaked in a mixture of turpentine/linseed oil with a dash of black and brown leather dye. The knife is just under 10".

You probably would have gotten more if ya did!!!! :eek: :D
But I'm just as happy that you didn't!!! :thumbup:

See ya at Blade West!

Ray... that one you just finished is OUTSTANDING... at least to my eye :D Wish I had the $$ to take this one off your hands. Do you take trades? ;)

I'm a HUGE fan of your work. I hope to own a few pieces one of these days.

Ray, wow, that one finished outstanding! (The hamon is beautiful.) :thumbup:

I heard Ray's got some sweet knives for sale at Blade West in Portland this weekend...:)

Chuck, That is still one of my all time favorites.

Just got back from Blade West 2008. A 30 minutes drive for me so thats a big plus. Whats a knife show like when people are scared of a depression? Lots of tire kickers. Very many people with the same name, VIP. I do think the new location was a good move. Hopefully by next year the funk will leave this country.

I always enjoy talking to Ray at the shows and admiring his work. He is a great and generous guy, and his knives are fantastic! I'm Just waiting for that perfect combo of blade and handle design to speak to me to take home! :)

Here's a few things I managed to sneak out of the show. Bruce and Kaye Bump brought me a 10 pound bag of Walla Walla sweet onions. I ate about a half of one last night without any heart burn. There just great but even the cows won't get close to me. The plastic just kind of showed up.

congratulations:thumbup:

Show 'em what got you the plastic! :D:thumbup:

Ray had a teriffic table just inside the door and it had enough eyecandy to really give him a chance for an award.. And he took three for good reason!

However, I do agree that there was more looking goin' on than buying, and I'm guilty, too... :( A quick three hour drive and all's I came back with was some Koa wood in case I ever decide I want something built in the future...

Lot of great makers there, and a lot of nice looking knives; and the venue, I think, will make the show a real attraction as it's reputation grows - Right outside was a pool and deck where one could rest and have food served to them, the forging demo area was right next to the pool, the inside was well laid out, though the lighting was better in some areas than others and close availability of other places to stay and other places to eat, all within walking distance... All in all, I'm going back again next year, and as Ray says, hope the economy lifts enough to rev things up, or at least mine does! :D

Here you go Joe:

I had to take the picture outside in the shade. Jumbo don't fit in my light box. The little knife has a 12" blade.

Egads, man!
:thumbup::D

But once you pick up the smaller of those two, lively comes to mind... Well balanced, deceptively light and pointy as heck!!!! :eek: :D

Thanks for the pic Ray! :thumbup:
