Razor edge sharpening video

Evolute...just got it in the mail today, Thanks. I'll be watching it over the weekend and probably sending it out early next week to Daveh.

My comments are pretty much in line with Pahl's. First of all, the video seemed to be lacking in the way of information. Out of the 30 or so minutes, there seemed to be only about 5-10 minutes of actual instruction. The rest of the time was spent repeating themselves. One guy would say one thing, then the other guy would repeat it and then the third guy would repeat it again. I've read Juranitch's book, so most of the information I already knew about, and in comparison with my Sharpmaker, I think the Sharpmaker wins out. Don't get me wrong, the Razor Edge guide is a great system, but I much prefer the Sharpmaker. I think the video should have at least shown some closeups of the knife that was being sharpened and more of an explanation about the burr. I already know it, but the video was meant for beginners but didn't really give as much starter information as the Sharpmaker video.

Thanks, Pahl, despite my remarks, I did enjoy watching the video and having the book come to life (at least a little bit). I will be sending it off either Monday or Tuesday. Thanks again.

A couple of comments. I thought the video was pretty good, though I recognize it was made many years ago. One thing that I thought they could have added was a little explanation about how acute to make the angle versus what you are cutting.

For example, though they could shave with an axe I wonder how long a shaving edge would last when chopping wood.
 
Thanks Dave the tape arrived today. I just got done watching it. The tape is done well. Like the others I think they could have showed a little more sharpening than they did. Personally I wouldn't recamend this tape, the book is better in my opinion. I have the book and I think it is a good one. However I am very glad I saw this tape. I should be able to send it out on Monday.
 
Recieved tape today.I enjoyed it. Yep, books are better than the movies. Should be able to ship tomorrow. William
 
Just checking to see where the video is at.

I have had a few people ask me to do a second pass around.
Looks like its getting to the end of the list of people we had for the first go around.

Once I get it back I will make a new post for a second go around.

I got the video in the mail yesterday and will be sending it to Clint by the end of the week. It looks like it is reaching the end of the list.

I guess I can be glad it was only a video and not a knife.

Don't think I will be passing around any blades after losing the sharpening video.
 
I'm not sure I even got on the list for the first pass around, but I think it stinks that Pahl would extend this offer to the forum community and now it seems his tape has vamoosed. I'm not ticked because I won't get to view it as I can already put a good edge on a knife, but that this man spent his own money to send it to somebody who then spent their money etc. etc. and now someone is keeping the video as their own.

It should be pretty easy to trace by the thread.

Have you tried emailing Carl M? Maybe it never left him, and seeing as how Clint is a premium member, I doubt he'd snake the video--it may never have gotten to him. But Carl's last post here was that last one that said he got it--maybe something's happened and he still has it. Give it some time. This really pisses me off, though. If it doesn't turn up, then I'll send you the cash to buy a new one. I hate it when people get shafted for being nice...:grumpy:
 
Okay, changed my mind...Clint's last post was on 6/14, so it probably did disappear with him somehow. I doubt that it was intentional, though--maybe some unforeseen circumstances (or maybe I'm just too trusting).

I sent the video out on July 11, 2002. At the time I sent an email asking Clint to write me when it arrived. So far I haven't heard back. At that time the email worked, but Pahl says it is no longer a good address. I tried sending Clint another email this morning. Let's see if it gets bumped back.

Pahl wrote to me on July 27 and we have been in touch. I am not happy to hear that this has become a problem. It was really decent of him to send this out and we should return the favor by getting his tape back to him quickly. My hope is that there is a good reason, like that Clint has been called out of town. It has been just under a month since I sent the tape to him, so I guess that is a possibility. I hope bringing this post to the top might help to get some answers.

It does kind of stink but it's not a real big deal.
I'm sure a number of things could have happened, good or bad.

That really stinks ... prehaps if Clint see's this thread his conscience will get to him if he is keeping it on purpose. If not maybe it is on the why back.... If not I suppose a few ppl could pitch in an help defer the cost of a replacement copy...

Sorry, Carl--hope it didn't sound like I was accusing you of anything, this whole situation just kinda bugs me and I was just trying to figure out what could've happened to it. Despite the recent influx of trolls around here, I have met with many great people and I'm just hoping that this works itself out. Pahl did a great thing and it let me see a video that I had been wanting to see for awhile now, and I hate to see him get punished for being a nice guy. I just find it hard to believe that someone that paid $20 for a Premium membership would ruin his rep by snaking a $20 video. I hope nothing bad has happened to him. Should we try snail mailing him? Probably wouldn't help since the video went via snail mail, but couldn't hurt either.
