RC-3 in concealed carry configuration?

As far as I know, No fixed blade is legal to carry concealed in Cali as long as it is "readily available as a stabbing weapon" so basically anywhere on ones person. You could throw it in the bottom of a pack. maybe:(

In theory, a pencil is illegal in CA under this law.

I have carried a RAT RC-3 for almost 2 years as described using the belt clip on the outside of the sheath, the sheath inside the waistband and the the clip over my belt.

It does not go over a Maxpedition Liger belt well, as the Liger is too thick/ the clip does not offer clearance for such a thick belt.

I also carry Mad Dogs either in a slip or IWB in the same fashion.

Instead of that gimmicky pop-the-dot strap, a cheap simple p-cord loop around your belt is a much better solution - costs nothing if you have a piece of cord handy and moves better with you.

I'm about to go run for an hour or so and will carry with the p-cord like that.

These pics are on my right hip, self-photo in the bathroom mirror. My Bear Cat rides just like this and is comfortable with the cord loop for an infinite period of time (I have fallen asleep on the couch with this rig and spent the night with it, no hassles, no pain or stiff spots. And I can hike, run or bike with it and no discomfort)

It disappears under a shirt, sweatshirt, even a t-shirt and the BC is about ten inches overall.

That is a very big knife to conceal :D

Parker - what kind of handle is that on the RC-3, if it is one?

Mine's a little pipsqueak of a fixed blade. I carry it in the sheath system's plastic "lower end," in my right front pocket and not much shows at all.

Is it a knife called Bear Cat? Looks big, if so, who makes it and what's going on with the paracord dealio?

My conceal carry RC3..
Sweatshirt up....
Sweatshirt down.....

Thanks to you all for the Idea's, I'am working on a Leather sheath for My RP rc-3 ! Thanks again!

Where are you guys getting these leather sheaths from? I can't find one except from some guy in NL wherever that is? Hate the crappy plastic sheaths that ESEE makes. Why don't they work that out w/o worrying about new knives?

Go ahead and flame me - but the word came down from the mountain that we shouldn't even buy their knives .... yada yada and yet they're pumping out new models and new versions of old ones.

I don't buy it, it's always about the money!

I am NOT a fanboy or given to group mentality. I own 3 Izulas an RC-3, RC-4 and a Junglas survival knife on pre-order - because I like them but the sheaths, other that the RC-4 which came in kydex, IMO are woeful and ugly too.

C'mon ESSE, give us some nicer sheath options! :) :)

That better?

I like the stock 3 sheath. Once I worked it in I had no issue with it. Locks up nice and thumbs off great. I agree on not likingthe izula sheath, but I'm not really angry about it. I just generally order a small custom kydex and then I'm happy. I can see not liking something exactly, but the anger just seems unneeded.

As for leather, I think ksf and tkc carry some, and there's leatherman and martin for customs. I can't even count the number of custom kydex makers floating around just this sub

All,

Thank you for the good suggestions. Also, from my poking around a few items:

A) I think they put in the "new" part as they broke away from ontario knives and are making their own knives now.

B) Its almost funny to me that in their warranty website they say " If you screw it up" etc that it is a no questions asked warranty. However in the next paragraph it says "We do not warranty against rust or normal wear and tear." Has anyone had a reason to use the warranty for their knife from them? If so what was it for and what was your experience?

Obnepec

Their warranty is awesome! That's why I buy them. Plus they're cool & priced appropriately.

I have custom kydex for my Izulas, in fact I have some of the 1st super-cool jimped-for-pocket-carry sheaths that hoopster now makes for the Izulas.

I don't care for the plastic sheath on the awesome RC-3 MIL. I posted that I hate them, which is a relative term, I don't hate them with anger or a vengeance, :) I just don't like them a lot!

They work quite well but the RC-4 comes in kydex and isn't much bigger, why not send the RC-3 in kydex?

ESEE obviously has the capability to get these made?? No, I have to ship my knife out to someone to get it made - a major pain!

The 3 sheath was designed quite some time ago I believe. The initial setup costs to make a sheath like that are very high, and it takes quite awhile to recoup those costs until it begins to be profitable. Since most people still love that sheath, it'd be a poor business choice to walk away from that.

As for having to send the knife out, there are several sheath makers who list the RC3 in their stock.

I carry mine IWB w/ the boot clip then loop paracord attached to my sheath through my belt loop. It keeps it secure and attached to my belt in the off chance the clip slides out of my pants.

Dizwolf can you name them if it's not against forum rules? Thanks.

Thanks Dizwolf,

One couldn't make a pocket sheath. Another is "coming soon." Last one is in the Netherlands, would rather do business in the US.

I appreciate your reply :)

Just tought this might clear things a little regarding, concealed knives in CA. This is the law as State law goes, to the best of my knowledge.

"12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any
of the following is punishable by imprisonment in
a county jail not exceeding one year or in the
state prison:
(a)(4) Carries concealed upon his or her person any
dirk or dagger.
(c)(24) As used in this section, a
"dirk" or "dagger" means a knife or other
instrument with or without a handguard that is
capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that
may inflict great bodily injury or death.
A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that
is not prohibited by Section 653k [switchblade], or
a pocketknife is capable of ready use as a stabbing
weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or
death only if the blade of the knife is exposed
and locked into position.
(d) Knives carried in sheaths which are worn openly
suspended from the waist of the wearer are not
concealed within the meaning of this section
."

Dizwolf - That's what I was looking for. As long as it holds the knife "snug," not too tight or too loose. I have 1 knife with a CRKT kydex that's well - junky for lack of using objectionable language.

Has anyone tried one of these?

This one would have been perfect for me if it was cut straight across the top, and not wrapping the handle.

Thank you btw! :)
