RC-5 SERE - OD and Black photo

Count me in for the S.E.R.E. Im sure it will be a great all around blade and it looks the part as well.

It's no longer called the SERE due to Al Mar's exclusive use to the rights to that name for all things cutlery. You'll see the SERE moniker disappear from all things RAT in the near future.(Making all things from RAT with that on them more collectible and desireable.);)

Question for the RAT guys...I just got an e-mail from the company where I preordered my RC-5 which stated they have received my payment (I preordered with my CC). Does that mean that the knives are shipping very soon or should I be concerned that I've been taken for a ride?

Very nice. They may be too pretty to use...but I guarantee I'll find a way!!

I doubt you have been taken for a ride. The RC-5 knives will be shipping pretty soon. Do not have a specific date yet but should be by the end of February. Eagle sheaths were shipped to Rowen this week.

JRB,

If you pre ordered with us have no fear your place on the pre-order list is locked in. Your credit card will not be billed until your knife ships.

If you pre-ordered from another RAT Cutlery Dealer I think you can also feel good about the order. I don't think Jeff and Mike would put up with a dishonest dealer, they surrounded their company with good folks.

Last but not least, you credit card company also has you covered. They will help you out with any dishonest merchants.

Hi Tom. I did not pre-order with you. But my credit card was indeed billed and the store where I did pre-order the knife sent me an e-mail saying that my payment was received. I've pre-ordered things before and never been charged before the item was shipped. I don't really think I was ripped off but it still makes me nervous.

JRB,

Let me clear up the point I made about not charging your credit card until the knife ships. That is our policy; I don't like to charge a customer until their knife ships, especially when they may be charged interest on the balance. Other dealers may have different policies and reasons for charging your credit card and they may have a valid reason for doing so. If they do charge your credit card up front that does not mean their a bad or dishonest dealer. If you are feeling a little uncomfortable with the deal email and or call them, I bet they will help you out.

Tom, I just received my RC-6 from you yesterday. I just wanted to say thank you...I appreciated that you kept me informed as far as the shipping status, that you didn't bill me until the knife shipped, and I really appreciated the quick shipping time! I will definitely be doing business with you again.

jackncoke,

Thank you for buying your knife from us we appreciate your business.

shotgunner11,

I don't think that is the kind of thing Rowen would joking about, we have a long list of RC-5 customers patiently waiting.

Rowen has been doing a superior job getting the knives out, thank you!

Rat Rc-5 > Drunken Mediocre Women

But.... Rat Rc-5< Sober Gorgeous Women?? I'm not so sure...:p

They look great, to be honest I'm not a big fan of the grind on the other RATs. These really appeal to me. Trademarking SERE? That's ridiculous. Will Busse trademark "combat" next?

I know, I was just poking a bit. As you get to know me, you'll stop taking anything I say seriously.;)

Al Mar has has been using the name SERE in commerce for years. I think it was a very smart thing for them to trademark it, especially after the mess we're going through right now with the RAT and RTAK names. Intellectual Property is indeed property, just like your car, house, boat, etc. The name SERE has been used in military circles for years. I thought it would be public domain. With that said, the only knives named SERE have been from Al Mar so they should (and have) registered the name under the services and goods of knives, cutlery, etc. Doesn't mean that anyone else can't use the name SERE, they just can't use it on knives, cutlery, etc. or anything that may cause confusion in the marketplace without licensing the name from Al Mar knives.

After this past year of I've come to know trademark law pretty well :D

No, it doesn't. It's just the way it is - and the way it should be. Before we would ever step on the toes or violate a trademark, we would just simply not make the knife at all. This whole deal we're going through (fighting for our own name) has made us realize there are MUCH more important things in life to worry about. We will put principle and honorable dealings over profit every time. If it gets to the point we cannot be honorable in our dealings, we will simply walk away from the industry completely and do something else.
