I think you may be right Ren and I may have over-reacted. I've been thinking about the sequence of events and it might all be a misunderstanding between a couple hot-heads. If that's the case, I'll try to make it right.
Anyway, here's how it went down: I responded to a for sale post over in G&G asking if the OP was interested in any trades. Before the OP responded I received what came across to me as a rather cryptic and somewhat unintelligible email from Mr. Wells asking (it seemed) if I wanted to buy or trade him for a Timberline Specwar.
Well, having had my email address mined by spammers/scammers/troll-types in the past, I immediately thought that I was on the receiving end of some scam or another. The email originated through the BF contact protocol so I did a quick search on rcwells and saw he was a relatively recent registered member with a handful of posts and, admittedly, jumped to the conclusion that he was a spammer/scammer of one sort or another.
At that point my visceral and profound loathing of all things spam-like and spam related got the better of me and I replied to his email by telling him in no uncertain terms what he could do with said offer. I then received another response from him that, in retrospect, revealed the fact that that my reply kind of caught him off guard and he didnt know what to make of it or why I had replied as I had.
Before I could put it all together, I received another email from Mr. Wells basically responding in-kind to my f-off email. I took this as confirmation that my assumption about his being a spammer or troll or nitwit of some kind was probably accurate since he offered no apology or explanation (which may have helped but anyway) and by then I was really seeing red. I figured, like most spammers, once he knew I was not gonna play nice, he was going to take out his little spammer frustrations on me by deluging me with a torrent of nasty emails, etc. So, at that point, feeling pissed off and rather righteous, I kinda road off on my high horse and posted what you see here.
I haven't communicated with Mr. Wells since all this transpired because I immediately blocked any more e-mails from him and put him on ignore.
After some thought and reading Rens post, here's what I now believe probably happened: Mr Wells, like me, was more than likely inquiring as to trade possibilities with the poster over in G&G. He may have inadvertently emailed me the offer by mistake and when I responded angrily he did the same and things sort of took off from there.
Anyway, Mr. rcwells, all that to say, I believe I may owe you an apology, sir. If you read this and can understand how, from my perspective, events were misconstrued and how, as a result, everything ended up going south so quickly, perhaps you'd be willing to let by-gones be by-gones and we can put this miscommunication behind us. I will remove you from my ignore list and from my blocked email list should you wish to contact me. At the very least, I really would like there to be no lasting animosity between us.
Any advice on how to rectify this from my fellow BF members would be greatly appreciated and taken to heart. (For instance, how can I delete the title of this thread so as not to damage his reputation further when members do a search for his name but don't read the posts)
I would not be too harsh. I think he might be a person who is just very enthusiastic about knives. I took a look at his pics he posted of his collection and he does seem to have a better than average taste in production knives. Remember we were all noobs at one time and didnt know the etiquitte of the whole "forum knife thingy"
he is prolly just a guy who wants to learn a bunch.
