Re grind a spey to a pen?

kinda though of this myself i have a Canal street stockman and the spey may have to go

Noooooo! Not a CSC! Irreplaceable if anything goes wrong, or at least difficult. Make sure you have a "practice " piece to try this on first.
Thanks, Neal

Done deal. Not quite a perfect pen, more of a drop point. But either way I love it.

Still have to add a touch more swedge to thin the very point out. And do a little sandpaper clean up so it looks a little better. The bevel is a little thicker where I took some belly out but nothing too bad. I put 19 dps on it and then cleaned up on the sharpmaker and it is keen! I'm glad I did it now. Tomorrow I might grind a touch more swedge and clean it up.

I like spey blades, so I'd have kept the spey, but I have to admit that your pen looks great!:cool:
Superb job on the blade mod, Joey.:thumbup:

Thanks y'all!

Oh I like spey also. Can't beat it for skinning squirrels and rabbits for sure. And I'll leave it on one always just for that use. But for daily use, I find a pen to be much more useful personally. But hey, if we all liked and needed the same thing, we would all be carrying the cookie cutter tacticool knife of the week, right? Lol

Looks good and once you pull the swedge down a bit it will bring the cutting edge/tip closer to center and look more like a pen. I love modified blades to suit the user. Ide rather have a modded blade than one that sits in the drawer cause I dont like/cant use it!

I did it to a 301. Just removed material from the spine. I also made the sheepfoot a bit pointier while I was at it.

Here's the other side that shows how close I got to the nail nick on the spey blade and how the sheepfoot sits in relation to the clip blade in the closed position.

It's not too hard to do. You just have to have a bit of patience and be careful not to overheat the tip.

Thank you for posting these pics. I think I may do that to one of my 301's and this is a perfect reference.

SVT you did a fine looking job, reshaping blades is a lot of fun.

No problem. It's been a while since I did it, so I can't remember if I lowered one or both of the secondary blades. It seems pretty likely that I did, though. Obviously it makes more sense to reshape the blades first and then see how they sit in relation to the clip blade before adjusting either of the kicks. It's just a couple small changes that make the knife a little more useful and visually appealing to me.

I also agree that yours came out good SVT.

Well done! I like that you left the belly. Im not much for a spey main, but I do like that nice slicing belly.

I had considered knocking an inch off the Spey blade on a full size Trapper and turning it into a sheepsfoot.
