Reaching a stopping point

You haven't reached the peak (or rock bottom) till you have a wharncliffe and a recurve tanto. Actually never mind, I have both and I'm still digging deeper; this stuff never ends.

i'm always at the stopping point, have been for years - but then something comes along, I have to check it out, and every so often it replaces something "on the list"

"On the list" mean the knives you already own or what you plan to purchase?

I'm about to the same point. A CPK inkosi arrives this week, making a total of 5 including a Shiro, 2 Spydies, and a Hinderer slipjoint. There are a few (maybe 2) out there that have my attention, but I find I don't want one of them any more than one of my current set, so I pass.

My focus now will be different sharpening techniques and edge finishes (toothy vs. polished) to see what performes the way i want. Sharpening is free now that i have a good setup.

A very sound and practical path T :)

I also finally picked up a WE100-Pro I, very recently here on the Exchange before I splurge over $1200 on their WE130-Pro III (kinda unfathomable to own $300+ to $1.5K knives and not to own some form of one of these Wes or other better guided systems for those are not masterful freehanders!).

I am also in the process of letting go of my safe-queen Shiros and just sticking with the F95T until I can source an F95R to complete the want-duo-Ti. I think that I will also be looking for a sheepfoot but alas Shiro does not do them and the current choices build down to CRK and also perhaps the upcoming Spydie-Paysan, both of which have their own pros and cons (none of these I would consider as a complete package as I do with Shiros!). The other day a LNIB Drunken came up from someone whom I had done deals before, but I just could not pull the trigger even at a price which was 25% off list (it was a great deal for the Drunken).

Regarding the folder "addiction" I can manage to curb and put the kibosh on my wayward temptations but when it comes to fixed blades of Nathan & Jo's workshop (CPK) I just fall onto another plane of addiction/obsession nirvana :D

"on the list" means knives I use regularly.
i don't rotate my EDC - I have one EDC
then I have other "ones" for other things - (not counting kitchen) - i have one for dressing deer, one for birds, one for skinning big game, one for small game, a couple for fishing, a camp knife, etc

then I have the ones that I basically don't use anymore - which I try to gift as there is no sense in them sitting around collecting dust.
of course there are some I dont use much, but can't get rid of

No Balisong?

No Magnum Tanto in San Mai?

No Auto... No Bowie... no Tomahawk?

You can't just skim the Knife Knut Handbook, mister. You have to read all the chapters and pass the quiz at the end of each.

Break time is over, now get your head back in the game!

I recently hit the wall on guns and that's how I got in to Knives more. I finally rationalized larger pricing on some knives and I think I'm pretty well set now however there are a few left I seem to keep longing for. Koenig, Lionsteel, spartan are a few on my short list. Well see what happens for now I'm just gonna save and see what pops up

That makes a lot of sense. One EDC and others are job specific. Simple and practical.

Caney Joe looks like one mean mother!

Is that ironwood on that Manix? super sexy. Also that circuit board flipper makes me drool every time you post it. I'm going into EE so that's kind of my thing.

I have been trying to get the same exact set up did you order the scales separately? Also with the sheath can it be carried upside down?
I ordered the Izula and the scales from TKC at the same time, something like 80 bucks? The scales make the knife.

And yea, the Izula is really easy to configure for pretty much any carry style. You really just need some paracord. That being said the sheath is just adequate. There's these two little nubs that butt up against the finger choil area, and if you're not careful you can shave bits of plastic off them while resheathing. Armatus Carry makes a kydex sheath called the Architect that looks just about perfect. Still need one.....

Had a Yojimbo 2, wasnt for me. I would like to own a sheepsfoot traditional at some point.....

Ok so I do still have some holes to fill I guess
- Better scales for the Sage
- Quality kitchen knife
- Another traditional of some sort
- TI Integral (Michael Raymond/Rassenti would be nice)
- Better sharpening system than freehanding with lansky stones (lmao)
- A custom (Herecus Blomerus LL13/LL15, CKknifeworksDreadeye, Gavko, Vadermeulen 3in Instigator, blah blah blah...)

I look at it like this...most people use a gun like... a few times a year at most? Someone with a large collection might not actually shoot a particular firearm for years.

However, a collection of 30 edc knives could conceivably all be used/carried once a month. That's pretty good.

At least, this is how I rationalize this sort of thing. Everyone I know who conceal carries has 1-3 that they carry, not...60. But knife guys love to mix and match so they get more use out of a large collection.

I guess I'm a little more gun zealous because I use my guns often. I admit I have certain guns that dont get regular use like my 1987 BAR in 300wm or my 1911 however all my other guns get used monthly. I also hunt and participate in trap and sporting Clay's events often.

I agree though that you can EDC a new knife daily where I couldn't afford to shoot 300wm daily, some of my ammo runs $5 a round depending on match ammo or not. That is one thing I appreciate about my knives is the cost to use and maintain is much more affordable.

Well, I may need a new kidney. Or how about your eldest male child or grandchild?

Not letting it go, ever. Steve Ketchen of sketchen scales made those. Too bad he's run into problems it seems.

Gravy, electrical stuff is one of my favorites. I have no formal training. My medical conditions have made it difficult to do much now.

Only instruction I ever received was my mom teaching me how to install a car stereo when I was 16. First experience I was 10, repaired my dad's old pioneer stereo system, and massive Kenwood speakers. I was bored and it was a rainy summer day. He let me keep it. Still have all of it.

I build/rebuild computers for the family business, am really, really good with home theater. But, at 40, with major disabilities, finishing my bachelor's is not on the agenda.

As far as stopping, well I got a $25 gift card as a belated birthday present last weekend, and while rummaging today, I found a $50 visa gift card. Being buried at the bottom of a seldom used junk drawer, I wasn't sure whose it was, mine or my parents. Being buried like that, no one will miss it. So I confiscated it.

I may have a case of the Cases. I think a new traditional maybe in my future, or a new flashlight.

I had the same feeling some time ago and while I still sure I have identified why I need and really use, I am now back into the hobbit to test another approach and see what will come out of it... I am just more selective and I am fine with keeping my collection to a smaller size than what it was used to be
