Ready for anything

Today, I have been carrying a Spyderco Endura and a Victorinox Cadet, plus a Classic SD on my keyring. With this set up I am ready for most anything I might encounter. I have a large blade for large cutting needs. I have small blades for small cutting chores. I have various screw drivers, a nail file, mini pry bar and pick, tooth pick, tweezers, and small scissors. I also have a cap lifter, wire stripper, and can opener. The can opener works as a scraper, and so does the large flat head. I am pretty set, I feel.

The Cadet is very slim and light and the Endura is trim and light for a large knife. So, I am not weighted down.

What about you all? Do you carry something similar?

Today I'm carrying this.

My EDC knife rotates through this Sodbuster, a Buck 110 and an Opinel #9 depending on whim.

I also have a full sized Leatherman Blast stashed in my computer bag.

But truth be told, the single blade traditional and Micra easily handles 99% of my needs.

No. I'm not ready for anything. I have a Cold Steel XL clip point Voyager in my pocket right now that I just batoned through a jumbo sized apple. A Fuji, at that. But I also carry a tiny SAK on my keychain when I'm driving. Maybe I need more toys. :)

HK Mini Axis and a Leatherman Sidekick today...

I am unprepared for most things... the only things I have to fear is spiders, snakes, werewolves, sharks, dying alone, zombies, clowns, heights, big dogs, robots with human brains, Johnson's wife and fear itself.

Other than that, I'm golden.

A small Leatherman and a good knife will definitely do the trick. I used to carry a small Leatherman like that but was trying to cut down on weight just a little. But they are pretty awesome. Since I am not trying to be an urban commando nor kill zombies, I carry what I do. Yesterday I used my Cadet to tighten the loose screws on my screen door and the knife blade on a nice apple. I also opened the mail. I used the nail file as a pick this morning to clean out some gunk from another knife. You cannot do all that with a normal single bladed knife.

I'm carrying a large CRK Classic Sebenza today...
p.s. almost forgot...also have a Bradford Guardian3 all the time... I forget it's there until I need a knife.

Ready for anything is a tricky phrase. My 'ready for anything' involves having a pair of scissors, a small knife blade, and maybe something to tighten a screw. I love the SAK Classic for this, but sometimes find it a tad small. Sometimes it's my main knife for the day, or I carry something else based on my mood, and relegate the Classic to my keyring. Each person's 'ready for anything' is going to be different.

Usually a large folder with serrations. A mid size folder. A leatherman micra on my keys. A vic sak solo or floral blade.

Can't be ready for anything and everything, but I carry an EDC backpack so I can be ready for many things.

I usually have a Spyderco Millie and a LM Supertool 200 on me. The knife rides my pocket while the LM is in a sheath on the belt. I also carry a Maglite Solitaire because I find having a flashlight is pretty handy.

Love it DocT! I carry a Classic on my key ring and have an Alox Cadet in my pocket more than half of the time. I find a P-38 on the key ring to be useful and fit with a still slim enough profile. I have not needed anything more while I'm at work.

Been carrying a GEC #71 (Bull Nose) for the last couple of weeks. Didn't think I'd like it, but I do. Will probably go back to my SAK, but I am enjoying this knife.

Always have a Leatherman Squirt PS4 with me now... mostly because of Pinnah. Just bought another one a few days ago. Red this time rather than blue.

I generally edc a Spyderco PM2 and a Kabar neck knife. Carrying 2 knives probably is unnecessary but sometimes there's occasions when it's handy to have such a small knife on your neck.

It is interesting what we all think is necessary to carry as out needs differ. My needs revolve around a university setting so I do not normally need a large knife, unless I am out about town. But the scissors, screw drivers, small blades, and etc. on my SAKs get a workout.

I also carry one of those small LED lights that fit on a key ring. The kind I carry is flat and weighs nothing much. A light is always handy. Sometimes, when you drop something on the floor of your car, and it has black interior, and you are in a parking garage, if you do not have a light, you find yourself floundering around feeling with your hands to find it.

The thing is, I want less to carry, not more. So whatever I carry has to do the most tasks with the least gear.

I'll pass the thanks on to Bob. Bob is the old-timer I used used to work with, who saw my Micra on my keys and who told me, "You'll get a lot more use out of that if you move that thing to your pocket." He then pulled out a Wenger version of the small Classic.

As I've told the story many times, a month after he told me that, I was a wedding party and needed a cap lifter for my beer and had to walk to find my jacket with keys in them to get my Micra. I put the Micra in my pocket and have never been thirsty since. ;^)

Doc T, I used to use a mini light on my keys too. I still pack one for backpacking on a small lanyard that I wear at night around my neck. But for EDC, I just rely on my iPhone's light. One less thing to wear and I keep my phone closer to me than my keys.

I grew up carrying Ulster BSA knives. Got my first stitches from one when I was 8. As dear as they are to me, I just can't get into multi-blade slip joints. I don't like the ergos and once the Micra got into my pocket, it provides 99% of the tools I need for my suburban life.

On the few days I need to lighten up even further, I'll carry a small single blade knife like this Schrade 51OT.

On days that I need to fly for business - often day trips with no checked baggage - I have a Micra that I've cut the knife blade off of and it goes through domestic TSA checks just fine. The debladed Micra is really my most minimal carry. I can do a lot with the beefy scissors. Really an amazing tool, imo.

nobody ever needs pliers on their lives?

The Micra appeals to me, but I know that I will get such little use of the heavier duty scissors that I go with the Squirt. I use the pliers on the Squirt more than I would expect. When I go to places that I can't have a blade, I'll carry the Leatherman Style. Again, I use the little pliers more than anything else for grabbing tiny things or cutting a small wire.
