Ready for anything

Ready for anything is a tricky phrase. My 'ready for anything' involves having a pair of scissors, a small knife blade, and maybe something to tighten a screw. I love the SAK Classic for this, but sometimes find it a tad small. Sometimes it's my main knife for the day, or I carry something else based on my mood, and relegate the Classic to my keyring. Each person's 'ready for anything' is going to be different.

The Micra appeals to me, but I know that I will get such little use of the heavier duty scissors that I go with the Squirt. I use the pliers on the Squirt more than I would expect. When I go to places that I can't have a blade, I'll carry the Leatherman Style. Again, I use the little pliers more than anything else for grabbing tiny things or cutting a small wire.

Perfectly reasonable.

For backpacking, I swap the Micra for the Squirt for exactly the reasons you describe.

@Peacant: I carry my large MT in my day pack. Leatherman Blast.

Today, I have been carrying a Spyderco Endura and a Victorinox Cadet, plus a Classic SD on my keyring. With this set up I am ready for most anything I might encounter. I have a large blade for large cutting needs. I have small blades for small cutting chores. I have various screw drivers, a nail file, mini pry bar and pick, tooth pick, tweezers, and small scissors. I also have a cap lifter, wire stripper, and can opener. The can opener works as a scraper, and so does the large flat head. I am pretty set, I feel.

The Cadet is very slim and light and the Endura is trim and light for a large knife. So, I am not weighted down.

What about you all? Do you carry something similar?

Where's the flashlight? ;)

This is what I carry every day, rotating the knife depending on the occasion (or current infatuation). I used to have a Vic Classic SD on my keys but I never used it, and pretty much have one stashed in every coat and bag I own (though I miss the idea of scissors always on me). The bit driver is super handy, and I find having a dedicated light indispensable (I'll grab something bigger as well if I know I'm going to need one). I hate having a bunch of stuff in my pockets, so I try to keep it as minimal as possible, and still feel prepared.

This is always in my bath robe, which mostly sees hot tub use. The bottle opener is redundant to the flashlight I suppose, but other people find it easier to use.

An easy question, as the answer is my EDC also: a Vic Classic + any of several 4-blade camper/scout pattern knives I own. It's the most all-around useful knife design I know, at least for my purposes.

If I think there's a chance of cutting small (roughly finger-size) branches, I'll choose a Remington R-4 or an Elinox Lumberjack, both of which have short saw blades. A SAK Farmer would also do the trick, of course, but with the Remington and Elinox already at hand, I've never felt the need of getting one.
