Yeah, that's the impression I'm getting too. Spyderco doesn't sell junk under any banner.I've never had a Byrd before, but I doubt Spyderco would release cheap crap under any name. I've always heard good things about them.
Those are factory moonglow Manix-II's and you might want to be careful, this whole thread is starting to sound like a way to bypass the classifieds and/or begging folks to give you the best deals on Spydercos.
Welcome to the addiction, but take it easy man... Live life one knife at a time![]()
I'm sorry if I gave anyone that impression of making this into a classifieds ad. In truth I found this thread extremely informative and will return to it time and time again since there is tons of information about Spyderco knives all located in one thread. Frankly the information in this thread is worth more than just about any single knife.
A few years ago I use to buy knives in "Lots" and I would weed out the junk and keep anything worth keeping. That's how I built a good bit of my original collection. I would then give away the "pedestrian" knives to friends and family who didn't care what the make was but just wanted an "OK" pocket knife. It's hard for me to live one knife at a time. Also I have a hard time with patience. LOL
So, the addiction begins a new with a whole new lot of modern knives, I couldn't be happier.
Go to dealer site. Look at Spydercos. Sort by price.
Under $30, fitting your description is the Persistance. That's about it.
Yeah I did that but there's nothing like holding it in your hand and then the instant gratification. lol
I think you'll like it. I don't own the flight, but do own a Byrd Cara Cara Rescue and Byrd Finch and they're really good knives for the price I paid, about $14 and $8, respectively. The only reason I wouldn't buy the one you bought is because I just don't dig stainless steel handles. But if you like that, you'll probably like the knife.
The fact that it's hollow ground versus FFG means it won't be the ultimate food prep slicer or anything. But it will still be a good cutter. Enjoy it.
Yeah, the hollow grind definitely grabbed my attention and as has been stated in this thread, "Spyderco doesn't make crap," I don't really use my knives for food preparation and if the need arises I usually carry more than one blade so the backup can do the food prep.
I'm kind of sorry that nobody has had any experience with the Spyderco Flight but that just means that I've got a chance to write a review and contribute to the site.
