Real deer hunting knives

CRK mountaineer 1...used to use a becker crewman. Pretty much anything with less than a 5" blade is fine with me.

usually my D.H Russell Grohman canaidian belt knife or a Bob Dozier, have others but these mostly

I used a 70s vintage Gerber for decades. When it disappeared into my son's scouting gear, I switched to Moras of similar size and shape. Never noticed that the switch made much difference.

I've used a Busse Game Warden for the past two seasons. Before that it was some kind of Buck folder. And before that it was an Uncle Henry.

I haven't hunted for a long time now, but all the years that I did hunt, I used a Buck 110 for squirrel, pheasant, deer. Never felt "under-knived".;) My son and I are thinking about hunting this year, as he turned 12, and if we do, we will both be carrying a Buck 110.

I use a Knives of Alaska wolverine hunter. D-2 tool steel takes a razor edge and holds it for a long time. I do a lot of hunting and this is the best hunting knife I have used in 31 years of hunting.

Dozier K2 is my favorite, have also used CS Master Hunter, and want to try many others!

I assume you mean for field dressing. Last several seasons, my Gerber Big Rock has done a great job dressing whitetails. The handle shape is perfect even during the goopy bits and the blade is fine - mystery steel and all.

This year, my Becker Necker will be doing the honors if I'm fortunate enough to make meat again with my longbow.

Almost anything with a 3-4" dropped blade and a handle that is comfortable to use upside down in one's hand.

James Poplin semi-skinner, 3 1/2" 154cm, he made for me over 20 yrs. ago.

David Wesner (kelsey Creek Knife Works) made me a Kephart pattern that I believe will do a nice job on deer and most anything else.

Question for you real deer hunters...I am not, but I am thinking of gifting my nephew, who is, a F-1.....is it considered a good one for dressing out a deer?
He mentioned it must have a good belly on it, and wondered if the F1 fit the bill....thanks!

I am going to use my f1 this year to try it out when I go deep in the allegheny national forest. I like the capabilities if If I get lost. but most of my hunts are farm land with small wood lots so I dont carry a "do all knife" normally.I seen a video of a guy who uses one and he said its great for deer and he uses it on ducks.

I had a Puma with a narrow 5" blade and rubber handle that I used for several years. I can't remember the model though. Couple of Shcrade fixed blades. Original Gerber Gator folding knife. Kershaw Vapor. Timberline Valloton folder. Various Mora's.

No specific knife for deer hunting. Kind of what ever I feel like taking with me at the time. I usually have a multi-tool, a folder, and a fixed blade.
