Real or Fake Strider SNG?

Hello, I've been a member on the forum for a few years, but not very active. I bought this knife a few years ago, for about 350 if memory serves me correctly. Since then, I've handled a buddy's knife/ another Strider SNG, and it felt much heavier than mine. Then I got to looking and noticed the handle materials seemed very different. I've used mine to open bottles a few times, and it's taken a chunk out of the handle where the cap dug in. Do I have a fake? I was just getting ready to send it in for sharpening and spa services, but don't want to spend the 25$ if it's a fake.

well, I can't figure out how to share photos...give me a minute

ok, finally figured out how to post a pic

SnG's are a surprisingly light knife. I'd be worried that the heavier one is fake. We need pics tho...

Posting Pictures - Photobucket

Open a free account at www.photobucket.com (or some other free web-hosting site)

"Upload" pictures from your computer/device to your Photobucket account using Photobucket "Upload" button in top tool bar and then the "Choose" button.

This last will take you to your Windows Picture page where you "open" a picture to upload it to PhotoBucket.

When the bar has filled, the picture is uploaded.

Left click on the small image of the picture that appears to the left.

A larger image will now appear to the right. Left click on the bottom "IMG" link. This is the "copy" step in Windows "copy and paste."

Go to your post here at BladeForums and "paste" the link in your post.

Save your post.

Better pictures help get better info.

A significantly heavier knife may mean that the frame is steel instead of Ti. Check for magnetism (with the blade open to avoid false positives) - Ti is nonmagnetic, but the clones are often made with steel.

Yea, I bought it from someone on this forum if I recall correctly.

And where did they get it? What is their reputation?

Where you get something is by far the most defining factor of if you get a fake.

From the four pictures, it's the real deal.
Is your buddy's a lego or CC SnG? The CC is going to be a bit lighter. You can also compare hardware and blade stamps with your buddy's.
Pics of the two together would be the best.

ok cool! I'll see if I can get a pic from him. His is not G10 I think. But it is definitely heavier than mine.

From the pics, it looks legit to me too.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the check here. I had a sick feeling I'd been duped...back to feeling good now. As I said, I've been carrying it for years, and like it a lot. It really needs an edge put on it now though. I tried to sharpen it once, but the tanto end, in addition to my having a lot of trouble getting it clamped properly due to the blade back, in my sharpener has kept me from getting it done. I started to, but when I realized I was going to change the blade angle dramatically, I quit until I could figure out how to do it properly. That's not happened yet. I've got the Lansky set, but as I said, I can't get it jigged up properly to put the right angle on the blade, and forget about sharpening the tanto end.

I would send pics to Strider to confirm. I posted pictures of one for sale that I bought through a well known Strider dealer and there were some arm chair knife experts on the forum calling it fake. They even had me doubting the authenticity. Strider confirmed it was the real deal.

Will Flickr work? I'm having trouble w/ it.

The high weight is definitely a cause for concern, as mentioned above. Also, bear in mind that Strider knives are one of the most commonly faked high end brands (along with Spyderco).

I guess I'm too dense to figure out how to post a pic. I've loaded the image to flickr, and am trying to post this img address but it always shows the little broken link image where Im trying to insert an image. Any ideas as to what I"m doing wrong?

That's weird... Once you click the pic you want, then the little arrow in the bottom right and grab the BB Code link (depending on what resolution/size pic you want from the list) it should copy and paste just fine.
