Well, OK. Looks like I'm in the minority on this one.

Carry on.

I think my post was a little harsher then intended. My point is that it should be expected to have one or two get out of the factory like that. Even the best QC in the world can't catch them all. Now if yours is the first of a rash of them then you have something.

I'm guessing you never took a close look at those Lycoming castings. Peek under the skin and you'll find all kinds of "character" underneath. Same goes for the P&W's on my C-425. Nevermind the Allisons in the 130's I flew for 30+ years...

Cool to see you had a 177. Cardinals aren't too common around here.

So it IS that kind of Spooky.... :D Thank you for your service.

Actually, the Cardinal had Lycoming, but the other two were Continentals. I'd do my own annuals under the intermittant watchful eye of an old, old, AI -- former 727 jocky whose logbook included pretty much everything with wings. I asked him one day how he felt about signing off on me doing the work, and he just said, "I've seen your work. Besides, it's not my ass in the left seat, it's yours!"
Ya know, I double- and triple-checked every bolt after that! :D

With as much growth as they are experiencing and as many knives as they are pumping out it's bound to happen once in a great while. I'd go through Ka-Bar first to see how they want to handle it, that would matter more to me than the grind marks themselves.

Hey K-9, It just so happens that I am getting my BK9 in the mail Friday or Saturday. I will be happy to check it for any grind makes and if it looks good, swap my new one for your new one. I don't have an modding plans currently so that mark won't matter to me to me much.

Just let me know and I'll ship it out to you. You can email, or PM f you need to

Thanks for the offer, Catmouth.
Since everyone thinks the birthmark is "cute", maybe I'll just make some transparent scales for this one so everyone can see it! :D

While not a huge deal, I would still be kind of irritated. I usually like first screwing things up myself.

I got one on my bk5 and had one on both a bk9 and 2. They were all different shapes and sizes. Just imperfections. I did fill them with queso and chips. Made an interesting centerpiece for dinner parties

Like taking delivery of a new car -- and it already has the first dent. You know you're going to put some on yourself eventually, but YOU'RE the one that wants to do it! :D

That's why, when I get a new knife, first thing I do is scratch it somehow. I have too, if I don't, I don't want to use it.

:D

Haha great idea!

No worries K-9, just trying to offer you a way out if you needed it before I go all scorched earth on the trees around my house with the KING. On another note, I guess I need to PM you about dura coating still.

That is a little strange being that Beckers have had the best finish under the coating of any knife that I have stripped. I have seen much higher dollar knives that look terrible under the coating. I don't think it will affect anything, but I'm sure could exchange it easily if you wanted to.

I've got the same thing on mine, didn't think a thing of it though. I bought it with the intention of beating the hell out of it, figured a little beauty mark under the scales wasn't going to hurt a thing.

Thank you, Jhuss.

That is interesting..........

think about it- on the off chance that someone steals your knife or if you lose it and it ends upat the police station, you can say that theres a grinder mark on the tang under the handle on the mark side- you will be the only one that knows about it and you get your knife back!
It's a cute birthmark too... :D
As far as the "scratch or don't wanna use it" goes, in the flashlight forums some guys are known to send a $200+ light spinning down a paved street to get the first scratches on it intentionally so that they won't be afraid to use it.
