Hey, at least we can even take the handles off, right? Most knives out there you cant.

Learn something new everyday.

Crappy music. Might want to turn it down, but this has got to be one of the most swankest knife straighteners I've ever seen.

And small, the last one I saw was the size of a small shed.

K9 Handler,

Those are called hard straightening marks. They are put there on purpose. Not to worry. It is not a defect but part of a process.

Unique or not, I think thats unacceptable! Seriously, you spent what $75-90 and you get those awesome grinder marks that they clearly covered up. Im all for supporting a great company, and beckers for the price are damn near impossible to beat but its still your hard earned money and that mark is crap!

I would return it or contact kabar, I wouldnt be rude, but that went out the door of a MAJOR knife company? If it was made in china ok it happens.... But its not

K9 you have every right to be upset, its your knife you should be the one to put those imperfections on your toy, not receive it like that from the factory.

And sqoon- I gotta ask, if you bought a brand new car, or backpack, or ANYTHING, and it had a giant scratch down the hood, "hey it doesnt effect how the car drives" you wouldnt be upset... Really?

And hes not flaunting it, he is discussing it on a forum that caters to us nuts, they enjoy our input on their tools hence why they have forums.

Honestly I am appalled so many are giving you a hard time k9. You would think this was the busse forum and you where talking crap about their holy knives.

Did you even bother reading this post from Toooj? Take a sec and read it.

Second, your example of a scratch on the hood of a car is in no way, shape, or form an accurate example. This is more akin to removing the door panel and finding a scratch behind it. Now would that bother you?

I just happened to take the scales off my BK5 for a new patina yesterday and for what it's worth mine has the same marks on both sides of the blade.

I really couldn't care less since it doesn't affect performance and it's not a visible part of the blade. Or put another way, I wouldn't want to pay anything extra (to Ka-Bar or anyone else) to "correct" the "problem".

I suppose I can see where others are coming from, but it just doesn't bother me.

I get why your pissed but Becker knives are users arent they? Thats why I see" Becker knives work for a living" and "hardcore knives, hardcore lives" everywhere, isnt it? If you wanted a fancy 3V blade with that gay polished micarta then this is the wrond place I guess. Btw,I've heard that the blade stamping process sometimes messes up the blades and weather this was a tweener related issue only or it happens for all of them but it makes sense that if the blade was bent dduring that process it you be straited somehow...

This issue is more about principle. So what if this doesn't affect the functionality of the knife, it's a cosmetic blemish that the consumer has every right to be upset about. If Ethan really stands by all of his products, then even he would have a problem with this. If we just start accepting this kind of quality coming out of Ka-Bar's QC, then both the producer and the consumer sides are failing. Just my $.02.

HOWEVER, if this is was part of some kind of process or something that I am not aware of (as I am a complete noob), then of course my point is moot.

+1 for further blowing this issue out of proportion

Read Toooj's post. Your point is moot.

Hey, if anyone should be bummed out its me. The 9 in question was originally mine. Had I known it had those sweet marks, I wouldn't have traded K-9! Also Dave I'll have a few more tins ready to ship you soon. My dentist will be pleased! :p

Oh right. Wait so does this mean that these marks are on all of our Beckers? I haven't checked mine yet as I am currently at work.

Just some of them have them. As I said before, I think some get messed up somehow and in order to keep them they straiten them out but it unfortunatly leaves those marks.

Hmm, but Toooj's post says that the marks are put there on purpose...

The way I understood his post was that the process that creates the marks is intentional. As in, part of the normal manufacturing process may or may not create these marks.

In other words, it wasn't somebody trying to start the weekend early making an errant swipe with a grinder.

I certainly don't speak for Tooj and he may be able to clarify further.

Ah I see. Well thanks for clearing it up! I will continue to expect only the best from my Becker(s)!

Weight added.

Let it sink.

Any problems with that, pm or email me.
