reasons the Strider SNG is worth the money

I'm looking to order an SnG very soon myself. The site I'll probably be buying from lists the steel as S35VN. Anyone know if that's accurate or just a typo?

A side note about Strider being hard to get in touch of... Last Wednesday I emailed Josh at 4:04pm. I got his reply at 4:07pm. Took him less than 5 minutes to respond. I will be writing a story about how great the rest of my customer service was in my experience when I get my knife back because I have no doubt it will be any less than great.

The SNG is the knife I dreamed about when I could only afford a CRKT Mirage. It was everything I imagined it would be and then some.

personally I don't like the price, losing cutting edge length to the finger choil, and the lack of a liner on the G-10 side. just my preferences though. it's undoubtably a great knife.

I would be such a fan if it was half the price :p

That is accurate. I have no experience with their heat treat on the S35VN but the S30V heat treat is awesome.

As far as a liner on the G10 side it is not really possible being that the G10 acts as a backspacer. You have to hold one in your hand to understand.

Why do people keep buying this knife with all the more common negative reviews vs the positive reviews. I'm thinking it is because people want it but frustratingly can't afford it.

The SNG is a fairly unique knife in a me-too world, has great ergonomics, feels more overbuilt than just about anything else, and has a cool factor. The guys who make it may or may not be (insert pejorative here...), though.

Could be a partial liner inlaid like a Military or something. I don't like the pivot and such rubbing directly on the G-10, but like I said, just my personal preferences. It's still a tough knife with amazing weight. Had one for a little while, might give in to getting a stonewashed SMF CC eventually.

Thanks ssblood! I'm looking forward to trying out the S35VN. Like you, the SnG was a dream knife of mine ever since I just started getting into knives. I just placed my order. Can't wait...a dream come true haha.

The SMF CC in 110V is calling my name also. I dread reprofiling one on the WEPS though. Makes my shoulders hurt just thinking about it. I did notice the SMF felt a little less solid than the SNG though. Probably because it doesn't weigh what you think it would because of the size.

That makes sense. I've only handled an SMF before so if the SnG feels more solid, that's awesome. I can imagine that the 110V would be a pain to sharpen...hopefully you won't have to very often though.

I've owned a few different Striders. They've just never clicked with me. I've always had some problem with every one I owned, so they've all been sold off or traded. I never did own an SMF so I guess I'll give one a try sooner or later, but I'll wait until I find a deal I can live with. I gave my wife a pink PT two years ago at Christmas and she's carried it in her bag every day since. She loves it.

I think they are cool knives. If I really wanted one I could afford one. However, I think the owner is an embarrassment, and as such will never buy one.

Strider knives are amazing. I bought my first one in the SMF gunner grips with 3v steel back in late august and now i have 4... and later today 4 more...yes 4 more will be delivered to my door step(both fixed and folders) bringing my total to 8 striders. The customer service is amazing, if you have an issue just send it in with a note and enough for return shipping! I did a small knife test with my aluminum strider in s35vn the other day with absolutely NO FEAR because i knew that in the highly unlikely event that it broke that they would just fix or replace it.

My collection thus far:
SMF DGG 3v, SMF AL S35VN, RW-1 tanto(2), RW-2 fixed, RW-3 fixed, SLCC fixed, and a SMF DDC in PD-1.

I love everything about the SMF, and will continue to purchase strider products for as long as they are in business..... because at the end of the day they make a product that just WORKS.

I'm in the same boat as those who will never buy a Strider or Sebenza. But as for those who purchase such knives, I can totally understand and accept their reasoning even if I'm not in the same boat. Example: I have colleagues and friends who wear Swiss watches that cost thousands of dollars. They can talk all day about how intricate the movement is and what a beautiful object the watch is, but it won't phase me. It ain't me... but they like that sort of thing and I understand that. For them, it's about the craftsmanship, the beauty, the quality, the pursuit of excellence, the prestige... all that. More power to them; I would never judge them.

But for me, my $100 Casio is more accurate, and I don't want a piece of jewelry as a timepiece. Different strokes for different folks.

EDIT: The few people who write negative reviews about Striders tend to be people like me, but who unfathomably decided to buy one for whatever reason. Their reaction to the knife seems to universally be "underwhelming." They were expecting a magic knife that can grant wishes because of the price and all the rave reviews. Instead... what they got was just a normal knife. A very nice knife, but just a normal knife. That's the reality.

Just for the record, though, the original Military had no liner on the non-locking side. :D

If you watch the video of the tiny 2.5 ounce Hold Out III holding 345lbs. with super thin liner-less G-10 handles, it kind of convinces you that G-10 doesn't really need a liner unless it's part of the lock mechanism.

There are plenty of people with sebbies, xms, and customs that have given Striders poor reviews. The final part of your statement is absolutely rediculous.
