Reasons To Carry a Pocket Knife

Because I have opposable thumbs, and I can. Two reasons that set me apart from most other creatures in the world.

A guy at my work says that we are all paranoid people if we feel the need to carry a knife. I asked why? He said ....and I quote. ..." I'm from California, and I see no need in carrying a knife, if you need to cut something, they make tools to do so." I proceeded to explain that my Strider SMF (made in California) is a tool and a knife as well....he told me I carried it for protection.....I said..."No, my Glock is for protection, my knife is for everything else. ......and protection. Walked away shaking my head......some people these days......anyway, I grew up in the country....a knife is a part of life.....nuff said.

In a supposedly free society, it sickens me that anyone would think to pose this question. Be that as it may, "because I damn well want to," is all the reason needed.

We're not even in the 'top 10' freest countries anymore. We were #6, only a few short years ago (2009).

Do I need a reason though? :p

Holy moly. I felt winded at the end of that. LOL

I've seen comments following articles about Freddie Gray that demonstrate just why a video like this is actually necessary. It seems like most people that you might run into on a day-to-day basis do think of a knife as a weapon first and a tool somewhere waaaaaay down the line and some think of a knife as only a weapon. They don't think twice about using their car/house key to tear through the tape on a package or fight with a pair of scissors to cut open those blister packaged items (that actually hurts my hand when I try it) and I imagine they generally just tear envelopes open.

Because 99% of the things we need/grow/buy/find/use come packed/grown/arrive/dropped/delivered/shipped inside other things that need to be opened/peeled/unpacked/pared/cut/quartered/butchered/etc. That's why I carry a knife.
