Well, I'm one step closer to owning a custom Emerson. I just got my two invoices for a CQC-6 and 8. If I recall right, the invoice #'s are 1555 and 1556. What if any signifiance do these #'s hold, and do they start over at #1 each year or something like that? I ask, because isn't Ernie something like 3000 orders behind? I know that it is going to be a long time, if ever

, but hopefully one day I will have that custom Emerson without paying that secondary market price

BH,

Dunno how the invoice thing works. I'm still awaiting mine. I ordered 2 ES1-M's a lefty & a righty. Hopefully they will show up b4 I hit middle age... ^_^

Hmm, I don't know either, but my invoice #'s for recent orders are 1595 and 1596. Attila, how much is Emerson charging for the ES1-M's?

Nightglock,
when did you place your orders? I placed mine in October, and just got the invoices yesterday.

The two ESM1s I ordered in '97 cost me $525 on delivery; anyone got a newer figure? I'd love to know how the invoice numbering works, too. My ESM1s were ordered together on invoice #1048, and one came in '98 and one in '99. Another order I have is in the 500s, and it is still not delivered!

Nightglock,

The price quote I got was $550.00 per ES1-M.

BH,
My invoices are #1552 & #1553 for the same knives. You might not see yours until 2016, but I'm getting mine in 2015

Wow jbravo, I ordered a knife in Dec '97, invoice 1303 and I just got a quote today for at least another two years.

I was told that on my knife which was ordered on 2/12/98 invoice no. 1330 that it would be a minimum of 2 more years. I am not sure why but I get the impression that certain models are quoted a shorter time, and the more popular models take longer is this true?

I e-mailed Emerson knives on this, and the reply that they gave me was 4 years minimum, and that Mr. Emerson works on them when he can because he also has variouis other projects that he is also working on besides knives. They also told me that they don't believe that he has reached the 1000 mark on the invoices yet. The e-mail also said that they go in order starting from #1 which they started at a few years ago. Oh well, I believe that it will be worth the wait.

I just don't like the fact that like a lot of you who ordered a couple of years ago the quote was 18 months for delivery.

Jason

There is no rhyme or reason to their system of delivery times, in my experience. For example, in June 1995 the quoted delivery time on a CQC6 was 18 to 24 months, and 6 to 8 months on all other customs. The Viper I ordered then is still awaiting delivery. Meanwhile, I ordered the two ESM1s the day after Ernie first showed them. It was the first civilian order for them, so I think he delivered them as Navy orders got filled by making an extra one or two per big shipment.

I think there is a waiting period for each style of knife. 6's, of which he has the most backlog on, get made in large batches and most frequently. He told me that he intends to make a batch of 5's soon, too, to reduce the backlog on them as well. So a guy who's been waiting three years on a 5 or 6 may get it in the next few months. But a guy who ordered something like a Viper 3 or a SRT, which he may only have a dozen orders on, won't get a knife until Ernie sets aside time to do "odds 'n' ends". I really think he feels four years is the outer limit for most of the orders he's got in hand, and tries to complete them before they get older than that. And what-the-heck, no one's perfect!

I just checked my orders, you guys had to make me look. Ordered 12/13/96 inv 1049/1050.
This year?

The invoice # for my Rhino that I ordered in summer of 98 is 1398. The original quoted date was November of last year. When I called at that time I was told that it would be at least another 2 years. At this rate, I'll be collecting a pension when the bill comes around. And what will the quality be? If CQC8 handles are starting to look flat and processed like Commander handles now, what'll they look like in 2 years? I think I may just be content with my 6 and 8 that I have now. Unless, someone wants to take that Corby piece off my hands in trade for a Viper or something...but that's for another forum.

Feelin' a little disgruntled..

Ryan, I think you've got a great point about the quality/look of the newer customs. When you have to wait 2-3-4 years for a CQC6, the "look" of it has changed. From the blade finish, the blade bevel(secondary), the LOGO and even the knurling on the thumb disk - what you do eventually get may not be what you originally ordered.

Actually, if you order a custom catalog, the cover has a picture of a CQC-6 with the old grind, and what looks like checkered micarta handle slabs. The recessed area on the bolsters is more oval also in the older style. My recently delivered CQC-6 looks entirely different. Although I ain't partin with my CQ, I too would have preferred the old grind.

Pigsticker,
recently delivered? How recently? I haven't heard of anyone getting an Emerson delivered....for a while. Does that mean he's filling his orders.
Did you get it from Emerson knives or aftermarket. Thanks.

I think pigsticker got his knife sometime in November if I remember his post. It's weird that Emerson decides to fill orders everyone once instead of just consistently working on orders in order.

Jason

WOW...

I dont think I could ever have the patience to wait even 1 year.

I would just freak out or forget about it..

I definately do not have the patience to wait. I remember that my wife called about three or four years ago when Emerson was just getting popular to place an order or a CQC5 for me. They told her it would be 18 months. I said no way. I figured that I would find one second hand for the same price. Then I found out what they were really going for on the second hand market. I refused to pay the premium prices. We'll still no CQC5, but I learned it's going to cost me a pretty penny if I want one. My feelings now are that I rather pay the premium & get the knife immediately, no waiting. Just have to find one.

The bottom line is that I'm glad I never placed the order.I don't have the frustration to deal with besides, I still wouldn't have gotten the knife anyway.
