Receiving phone solicitations? (727)541-0001, (000)000-0000???? Please read.

jaxx,

I have not heard from you yet, so please email me directly at eric@mdtactical.com or give me a call at 626-322-7401 so I can help you out. We do not under any condition sell or give out our customers information. It is possible that your information was taken from else where, even your own computer if you have some spyware running that you don't know about. Our system is very secure and this is the first time we have ever been accused of selling customer information. I have also check our emails and messages every day and have not seen any past emails or messages from you. So please contact me so I can help you out. I will also check with our card processing company to see if they have had any security problems in the past month. Thanks.

Eric

Hi Eric, Have already emailed you at the 'sales@...' addy, about 10 min ago... :)

I am methodical about a/v&t scans and also anti-spy, and anti-bot scans (I use 3 different ones to get the desired results) and I have never had another issue using online merchant websites. I'm OC like that as I'm a fan of online buying and an enemy of scamming stealing SOB's.... That's not to say that it couldn't have been from my end, but, from my end, it looks like your end. Nothing except my personal info has been taken as of today, and so far, no calls after my last threat (FCC), but the day is still young. The unique card number & CVC2 number thing is what allowed me to find out what the origin might have been and, I believe, the difference between annoyance and victim, since its limit was set to only cover the purchase. My last thought is that the transmission might have been somehow intercepted between us. No one else has posted here about how this is happening to them too, but the first number is known well enough elsewhere on the 'Net.

Jaxx,

It was good talking with you over the phone and I hope we have together solved the issue. Since you are the only one reported to have had information possibly taken from our system, then I must say that the information taken was stolen in transit between your system and ours. There are hack programs out there that can grab information this way. Even some "cookies" can track key strokes and send the information out. The good news is that the hacker was not able to crack our encription to get your entire credit card number. If you need anything else please let me know and if anyone else has any security questions please email me. I've been in the computer industry for a long time now and I know a few tricks to keep your system more secure. Thanks.

Hi again. :)

After a long and very interesting conversation with Eric from MD Tactical, the best explaination that we can arrive at is that someone must've somehow intercepted this order's data stream enroute and was only able to read the last four digits of the card with some other nonsecure info, (name & phone number)... and then either used or sold my info to another. He explained his methods as best that he could to someone like me, LOL computer layman, :) but his combination of both hi-tech and low-tech safeguards have put my mind at ease. Also, after a day + of time that this post has been up, no one else has come forward to state the same problem, with MD Tactical as the root helps ease my mind, as I am only interested in helping to defeat indentity theft, not wreck a business with a positive solid reputation that (as it turns out) is also interested in preventing ID theft. Eric has also told me some good tips that will cause me to make my fairly secure computer MORE secure (Thanxx, I appreciate the info!) and his own experiences with low down crooks, have me convinced that HE did NOT give/trade/sell my information away.

It is a cryin' shame that some little nosey thieving punkazz bastid somewhere out there ALMOST had me calling out for blood from a company that doesn't deserve my anger...

After this experience I feel that I should say this, because no matter how safe both ends are, there's STILL the middle!! LET THIS BE A LESSON TO ALL TO STAY ALERT AGAINST THOSE WHO WISH TO MAKE THEIR MONEY BY STEALING YOURS. DON'T READILY GIVE OUT YOUR INFORMATION! IF YOU WOULDN'T YELL IT IN A CROWDED ROOM, DON'T whisper it ON THE INTERNET. KEEP your DATA SAFE. Ya just can't snooze for a second about keeping your computer secure anymore!!

My apologies to Eric and the Crew at MD Tactical for any harm that I may have done by posting this. I enjoyed my conversation with him, and YES, NOW after our conversation, I would absolutely do business with them again.:thumbup:

Thank you for reading!

Jaxx, glad to hear about the positive outcome. Eric's good people and I need to buy something from him soon.

We do try extremely hard to keep our customers information as secure as possible. Here is something that you all may not know. When I take phone orders I sometimes have to write it down. After I'm done with the information I shred it and then burn the shredded paper in my bar-b-q. How's that for protection? :D

How about Jaxx or Eric sharing those tips with all of us? I imagine we could all benefit from better computer security.

I shred my paper stuff, then give it to my vet tech friend who uses it for cats that have just been declawed, for litter, since they can't use real litter until their paws heal up. :D You're not gonna want it after that! Burning is good! I'll have to keep some to use in my new home for the fireplace. :)

Eric has the good tips, I'll let him do the teaching.
:D However, I do think that after this situation, and some much more serious fraud scenanrios (the Vlad/ANN_DEN thing), that a small internet & computer safety forum HERE on BF.com MIGHT be needed... For alerts, and also tips and tricks to staying secure and un-scammed, while online would, I believe, do us all some good. :) Just a thought! ... Maybe a sub-forum in the GBU???

One of the things that will help is keep your anti-virus up to date, not just turn on the "automatic update". That does not work and your definitions will never be up to par. You must check manually every week on Thursday or Friday. That also goes for any anit spyware you are currently using. Hackers are constantly finding new ways around security so you must check your definitions weekly and also run full system scans weekly. I know some programs take a long time to run a full scan so just start the scan be fore you go to sleep, then in the morning quikly check it and go to work.
My internet browser is set to "0" in my "History", cookies are cleared after every session as well as "temp" files. If using "Firefox" there are settings under "Tools, Options" that you can change. Using IE is a bit different because it always saves information, even in hidden files that most do not even know it's there. At least doing some of the above will help secure your computer a little better. If you really need some help you can email me and I will try to help you out as best I can.
