Recomendations,HOW TO's and TUTORIALS

Why so harsh on Redrummd guys? Is there something going on here that I missed? All I see is a guy using the name of his website for a handle comes on here to add to a discussion and offers up a tutorial for putting a stone handle on a knife and you guys jump on him because he's not a "knifemaker"

Oh you young guys... ;)

Go rent the movie "The Shining". Once you've watched it you will understand what "REDRUM" is and why having REDRUM associated with the title of Knifemaker is a black eye to our community

I have to confess, that I may have jumped the gun as the guy's ID is actually "Redrummd". Thanks for bringing that to my attenetion. Him being a vetran postal worker and "Redrum" being part of his handle, I'd be interested in hearing his side of what is meant by his handle. Maybe it's his idea of a joke.

OK, skip the movie watching. I'll tell you what Redrum is: it's Murder spelled backwards. Not very complimentary to the knife community in my book. But then again you probably need to be at least approaching 40 to have seen the movie and catch the Redrum thing. Which by the way is one of Jack Nicholson's best. Right up there with "One flew over the Coocoo's nest".

As a Mastersmith I know most of the answers asked by the new guys but I seldom answer here on the forum. Almost everybody here knows the answer and are more elequent in speech and can lay it out in type better so I just let them do it. Stacy is a wealth if information and if he ever gets burnt out we will all realize what a great guy he is/was.

Dont think I dont read most everything here, I too need to learn and/or stay abreast of whats happening.

I have asked some simple questions before I ranked up there too and people were patient with me. We all have to start somewhere.

My tutorials are long and very fun for me to do. I love all the comments and the compliments are the icing on the cake for me. Its impossible to say thankyou enough for them. As for the questions people ask on them, really there arent that many and I try to answer them all. Inquiring minds like to know how things work even if they are not ready or able to make one yet.

As for the names people use as a screen name, I really think they should use their real name. Our old friend "Pimplesqee" comes to mind. I still think of sqeezing a pimple when I read that.

Ok Rick, I can see now how that could be a poor choice of name. I think the d is meant to imply that the KNIVES have been murdered by him trying to put a new handle on. A joke easily misunderstood.

Whatever happened to him, anyway?

Anyway, as you can guess, I agree with using your own name. Just my opinion. Although a silly screen-name doesn't necessarily stop me from dealing with a person. I notice more people with odd nicks are signing at least their real first name at the bottom of their posts, that helps.

nevermind... I need to get outside. The computer is burning my brain into mush... :)

It didnt stop me from responding but silly names make it hard for us old farts to take person very serious. Maybe its just me. It did help alot when they started signing their real names after I complained enough but not everybody does that so I still wonder who I'm talking to. They know me but I dont know them. That doesnt seem fair somehow.

Hey Bruce,

I'm not the best at putting thoughts into words. I think I come across a lot more serious than I am. Personally, none of the names stop me from helping soimeone out if I can. I just think that they are missing out on an opportunity to get thier name out there if it's selling knives that they aspire to.

Nick, I'm with you... Brain is mush. Needs to fry some bigger fish in the shop and straighten things out. Figuratively and litterally. ;)

Sorry if I've offended anyone! It was not my intent nor will it ever be!

I will apologize as well.

My direct mention of that pparticular handle...was not about the person as much as it was about using the handle (MURDER reversed) in dripping blood.

That kind of stuff is exactly what people who want to help us make America safe...by outlawing guns and next knives...as in Great Britain...want to see on the NET.

More soon.

As far as BF goes...this is my place to be among makers who have dedicated themselves to the craft.

I try to add some good word or knowledge when I can. It is truly rare for so much of what I see is new and far beyond my abilities.

Other times, if I can add a bit of levity or good will I will do that also.(Sometimes my humor is mistaken for whatever the opposite of humor is.)

However, when I see a trend that endangers this valued place, it is my imperative to speak out.

If no one else is moved by the suggestions, then I can go sit down and be quiet. I will post when I have a specific need, and add nothing more to anyone else's conversation.

I beleive if no change does take place. This portion of BF will slowly die.
It will be filled with inexperienced makers leading the inexperienced wanna-be's.

The big names will congregate to other forum sites. They will levitate towards sites that offer them something more than a drain on their reserves and stress. Instead they will seek spiritual re-charge and the endless inspiration of seeing what other talented makers can do to push the craft further and higher.

That is all I have to offer, opinion and prophecy. So many times when I interject this sort of talk I pray to be wrong, as is the case here.

Respectfully,

Shane
