Recommend a folder for millitary use

It's a shame that every time a thread is on "recommend a knife for deployment" it's usually suggested to keep a cheap one if any as thievery amongst troops is common. Maybe it's common in the American Military but I am uncertain if that is so amongst Danes.

A fixed blade would be a safe bet.....
But I would say... Go for a Griptillian 551 Benchmade or Mini Rukus.....
Most of my friends in the service... prefer a Leatherman and a fixed blade... I dunno...So de se

So what's wrong with a Swiss Army Knife (especially the one-handed types)?
There are plainly far too many knives to choose from.
But I think it's been agreed that Swiss Army Knives are generally a good deal under most circumstances.
If you want value with a rock solid history of "real world" usage, this is it.

When I joined the Army, I learned that there is only one thief in the Army. Everyone else is just trying to get their sh*t back.

I agree. The OP has a glock knife that comes with the job. So, a SAK will come in handy for those uses where you don't want to use the glock, and then the sak comes with other useful tools as well.

Got the SAK (issued) and i also have a leatherman :) Good sugestions though. Thievery isn't really an issue, since i would have the knife either on me or locked up at all times.
In reality this is really more of a luxury purchase, army pay is descent and i like knives so why not get a knife for the army :)

There are a lot of awesome looking suggestions, i think i'm gonna go for the spyderco millitary, and maybe get a spyderco sharpener for it aswell... gotta learn sometime right? ;)

Fixed Blade for deployment,

But if you must have a folder:

This is the toughest, smoothest-axis-lock folder
I have ever had the pleasure of handling.
Blade Length: 3.40", Closed Length: 4.50", 5.3 oz.

Benchmade HK 14200SBK-702

Cheap? Kershaw Storm comes to mind first. Made in the USA, if you get the big one you can buy one at Wal-Mart or order it in plain edge from NewGraham.com

Higher dollar? I'd suggest an HD12 from Emerson, Zero Tolerance 0300 or the Strider SnG if you can afford one of any of those.

If not, the Bradley Alias full size will save you some bucks. If that is not enough cutting of the cost for you maybe look at the Taiwan made Tarani 5:11 series of lockbacks. I have the Investigator. Its a heck of a good folder for about $50 to $60. Personally I like it the best of the other two lockbacks they offer but all three are tough as nails sporting the same blade steel as the Emerson knives but at a much more appealing price.

STR

HD7 or 12. Right on STR.

Thievery not common in the U.S. Marine Corps and what little thievery there was (very little) was dealt with SEVERELY. And by the way, lets try to refrain from bad mouthing our military who are, as we speak, performing so gallantly in a very difficult two front war, especially when speaking (or posting) to a member of a foreign military.

In that case:

Spyderco: Military, Paramilitary

Benchmade: 14200/205, 520, 710

Kershaw: JYD D2

Zero Tolerance: 0200

I agree to get a sharpener while you're at it. I warn you though, sharpening becomes an obsession in itself.

ZT 0200

+1 on the ZT0200. My friend has one; I fell in love with it, despite the weight. I love the look and feel of that knife. The styling just sings to me and the grip is superb. The knife is a built tough and I'm sure it can put up with a lot of abuse. If I wasn't trying to pace myself financially at the moment, I'd get one instead of the spydie I'm looking to get. Not practical for EDC (weight), but for deployment it might be an option.

edit: if you have the coin, ZT300 is even better i've heard.

The millie would be a great choice and if your $$$ allows get a CF model. Spyderco sharpening tools are some of the best but I think you would be better suited with DMT dia-fold sharpeners. They are very light and work very well, and you would only need two of them, the x-coarse/coarse and fine/ultrafine.

My son is a US Marine, and he found that his Leatherman (Charge, I believe) was his most used tool. He also enjoyed Emerson CQC-7,and Spyderco Military D2 knives (though these were both lost during his deployment. I suspect that they were knocked out of his pocket while hoisting his gear and sea bags during travel. So, you may want to consider some sort of lanyard, or storage inside a secure pocket.
