I wanna thank everyone for their suggestions. I just purchased this Benchmade 940 with the D2 blade:

I wish I could have found one in black, but I was unable to dig one up. How does the anodized finish hold up on these?

This BM 940 is a fine knife. I'm glad I bought it, and I'm really interested in Benchmade's other offerings. I've already ordered a mini-griptilian 556 and I'm about to head down to Bass Pro Shops to see what they have available.

Thanks again, everyone!

The black handled model with the 940 blade is the 941 (I believe, that, or it's the 942). However, I don't think that the 941's had a run with D2 steel. The 943 has a different blade shape, but the has the same handle scales standard in black with a blue backspacer. If you desperately want a black handle, see if you can find someone with a 943 who would be willing to swap scales with you.

The 943 was my only EDC knife for several years. It's been through the rigors of almost an entire undergraduate degree--and all the drunken stupidity that that entails. The anodized finish will hold up quite well, unless you plan on spending a lot of your time scraping it across concrete.

+1 on the Benchmade 940. Of course I'm biased because this is my favorite all-around knife of all time, but it really is a great design. The aluminum handle is not impervious to chipping, but that's a cosmetic issue and has no impact on performance.

+1 to everything. My favorite knife too.

Great choice with that. I have one in S30v and thinking about selling it cheap and picking up the D2 version.

Hey Fireincairo, awesome pick on your knife. I have the S30V version and it's one of my personal favorites.

To answer your question about the anodized finish, it is pretty tough in my opinion. It can get dinged and scratched up easily if you have your keys in the same pocket though, so I would recommend carrying it separated from anything hard enough to beat up the anodizing. Otherwise, it seems to last pretty well, although I also heard you shouldn't clean it with hydrogen peroxide, which will apparently screw up the finish.

Also, if your looking for more knives with your requirements, look at the Benchmade Mini-Presidio and the Mini-Presidio Ultra. Both are awesome knives and are extremely tough. The Ultra comes with 440C and Noryl GTX handles, compared to the regular with 154CM and anodized aluminum, but its way cheaper and is an awesome deal. My fullsize 520 Presidio is seriously one of my favorite knives aside from the 940, and it is tough as hell, and looks pretty cool too, you might enjoy one.

buck alpha hunter rose-wood grips. i have the knife personally and it is the most "purdy" and strong work folder. the blade is 3 1/4" and can take a beatin' and its only 80 bucks
