Recommend a hawk for animal defence

Black Bears do not attack as often, but when they attack they plan on eating you. Grizzlies just want to rough you up and show you who is boss most of the time. Playing dead with them will get you torn up but generally let you live. I had experience in Alaska where a black attacked and both were killed on top of their victim having a meal. Sounds like you have a plan. Just remember you are fighting for your life.

Why a tomahawk, why not a 3/4 sized axe that can be put to use as a tool around camp in between bouts of fighting off Twinkie stealing wolverines? :D

And just because I like finding an excuse to use this poster whenever I can....

Hey, that's cool. The only reason I know is that my sister is a crazy person. She works in pathology, and she is quite interested in the anatomy of animals and humans alike. I don't have the stomach to even listen to some of her stories from the lab! Yuck. Anyway, anytime it comes to cleaning game, she "dissects" and proceeds to name and inform us the functions of each part. She's very slow, but I've never seen anyone process game so cleanly...not even close.

:) :) :)

Actually I think a tomahawk with it's comparatively small edge would make a bad choice against a small fast moving target. If you're going to be hand-to-hand then you need margin of error like a long machete or better yet a fast kukri for oomph.

Well, it is probably hard to beat this:

Tracker Dan Tactical Tomahawk

Specs:
> 154 CM Steel with Black G-10 scales on both sides of the handle
> Kydex case that has 2 x 2" belt loops & can attach to MOLLE gear
> Tomahawk head is 6.25" x 3 " x 3/16" (.1875")
> Full Tomahawk Length is approximately 14"
> Superior craftsmanship (this is one excellent handmade Tomahawk!)

He custom made it for me in 4 weeks. It is light and handles very well. It is designed for close-quarters-combat, which I imagine would be pretty effective for self-defense too. I took pictures not long ago >>>
