Recommend me a great tanto folder.

CRK sebenza Tanto is a fantastic knife. Pretty pricy however, but if you can swing it, it'll be the last knife you need to buy. Emersons CQC-15 is a modified recurve tanto that you may want to look at. Keep in mind its chisel ground and large so may or may not fit your need.

edit: sorry missed the flipper part.

I just gotta ask, why a tanto over a clip point or drop point ?
There are far more clip or drop point options out there.
I can use an Americanized tanto blade for just about anything that you can use a MDP or bowie. It's all in how you use the tool. SOme people focus on the blade shape and they don't figure it's good for anything but stabbing, that is not true. I've been a tanto user for about 12 years and haven't had any issues.

My suggestion would be a Kershaw Zing, Emerson Mini 7, the mini roadhouse, or any of the cold steel variants in the smaller size, or whatever size you prefer.

If you can find it a Spyderco Lum Tanto. It's not a flipper though but a great knife.

Does it have to be a folder? There are some small kwaiken style tantos that are very pointy and sharp.

I personally find the Tanto to be a great blade shape especially for cutting paper that is laying on a surface like a table. The second "tip" where the two edges meet I find alot of uses for that the curve of of a clip or drop point has in the same place is not as good for. (Obviously I'm talking about "American"
Tantos.)

Some knives like the Roadhouse have the benefit of a curved primary edge as well. I also like the Cqc15 for it having a Tanto point and a recurved main edge.

I actually have a black DLC tanto Zing. Carried it a few times. The answer might have been under my nose the whole time.

Little more money can get you a Code 4 or Recon 1 from Cold Steel. 0.13" (C4) and 0.14" (R1) blade stock though.

I agree. I am not especially a fan of American tantos but never had any trouble using them to cut things. It wasn't until I joined here that I ever imagined someone could think that way.

I think it's subconscious pushback against the mall-ninja-ey culture that popularized the blade shape.

The kershaw leek is not a manual flipper. Its thin, is a flipper and pointy.
An inexpensive tanto, its a lockback, the kabar karon.
