Recommend me a TOUGH, Big folder

I’m looking for a TOUGH, Big folder (read, blade more than 4 in) for a do-it-all, utility companion that I can bring with me everyday in my bag/satchel etc. Don’t need one handed opening as I don’t anticipate that I will need it for anything that needs to be cut in a hurry… for that I have a smaller 14210 that I EDC.

I would prefer PE but if you have one in mind that is available only in CE, I will also consider.

So far it’s down to the ZT200 or the Skirmish. The Rukus doesn’t really float my boat as I feel that it has too long a handle for the blade length (another thing that I don't like... too long a handle length versus the blade length)

I already have a 710 and 2 custom 110 coming, so there, that disqualifies them.... :)

Any recommendations or thoughts??

more than four?? A camilius Cuda maXX, has a 5.5 inch blade if I remember correctly.

If you can live with a 4" blade a Ka-Bar Mule should work.

How about a big a$$ Cold Steel Voyager X2? My 4" Voyager is tough as nails and cheap (that X2 is under $60 on ebay).

gotta second the retribution....you will love it. If you do a search, you will see pictures and a mini review I did on mine.

You already mentioned my recommendation in your original post, go with the Benchmade Skirmish.

Gonna' third the Ontario Hossom Retribution I; 4.5" X .200" blade of N690Co with titanium liners as thick as a framelock @ .125"!! All for under $150.00 at most online stores!

Go with the Skirmish. It is a really big knife. I almost traded mine away, because it was so big (I am glad I didn't). I would think it would do fine for light chopping in a pintch. It seems to be solid as a vault.

A fourth for the Retribution. The only "tougher" folder I own is the ZT301, and it's out of your price range. The Retribution is especially well suited for carrying off body in a bag, as it is gigantic!

Strider AR/GB would be the toughest folder-IMHO.

Next would be the ZT300.

I have a Demko framelock that is tougher than anything that I have held.

Try to find a CUDA MAXX 5.5, especially in the bowie blade style. It is well worth the extra bucks.

Tetsusaiga, look at the Skirmish - it's big and it's bad. Or the Manix.

I like smaller knives myself. email me offline - I'm interested to see your knife collection / taste in person....

Not quite 4 inches but the Buck 889. Also, the larger Buck/Strider 880 ( I handled one for the first time this weekend and it's GINORMOUS!). I have two 889's and love em as well as beat em up a bit. :D

Well, I don't think that a bigger folder is really going to do much that your 710 or Custom 110 can't already do.
So, maybe a large full-sized multi-tool would be a better companion?

Good luck,
Allen.

I also recommend the Ontario Hossum Retribution 1 or 2. I have the smaller 2 and it is built like a tank. The BM Skirmish is also a good coice but it costs more and doesn't have those sweet micarta scales that feel so good in your hand.:D
