Recommend me my next knife

Go up in price by $10 and have a look at the Boker Urban Trapper.

I've been looking at it as well as the other new offerings from boker. Veeeery tempting. And if the aftermarket for scales and mods etc is anything like the kwaiken...

Meets a lot of the criteria. The blade to handle ratio is as good as I've seen both length and width. There isn't any wasted space. The deep carry clip leaves nothing showing at all (the bend actually extends slightly past the knife) and it's short and looks more like an id badge clip than a knife. And the steel is a step up from what you usually see in the price range. It does need a little tuning to get the flipping action right, but once it's dialed in its amazing (just lube and lock tension)

You've gotten to handle one already?

Yeah, bought one last week. I'm really impressed, for $75 it's one hell of a knife. Not heavy duty by any means, but it's really the modern equivalent of a single blade pocket knife. (Thus the name I guess)

I did not like the Code 4. Too thin and no traction in the grip.

I wouldn't dismiss the recon 1, they're lighter than they look.

I really like the vantage series but it's already been mentioned along with the common qc issues.

For light regular use knives I think KaBar doziers and ESEE Zancudo. Quality product and tough use blades.

I like the Joe Pardue Utilitac II for heavy use but it's probably too heavy and the blade is thick.

The higher end CRKT Ripples have good steel and smooth action. The low end had aluminum handles.

A spyderco native5 lightweight is just north or your range but would make a great user.

gotcha. I really need a boker, I haven't had one yet, it's on the list. Kwaiker vs urban trapper?

I don't own any cold steel knives, I really need to handle some of those too. The mini recon and mini code-4 in spearpoint look like great knives. the zancudo just keeps coming up, and at $30-$35... hard to argue. How does it compare to the RAT-2? I'm not sure I like the CRKTs price point given the steel, they're kinda like SOG in my observation where the pricing in most of their line up isn't driven by steel as much as other factors.

IMO, the standard Delica or Endura with the saber grind is going to give you solid performance. The VG-10 steel is a major improvement from the 8Cr, and the Delica and Endura have great edge geometry for their respective class. They are strong and can hold up to hard usage. Their tips are unusual but by design they are very strong tips.

The Kershaw Skyline is a great performer too and a great value. The Sandvik steel it uses is great stuff that rarely gets the credit it deserves.

The Kershaw Blur is another possible candidate. You can sometimes find these used in CPM-154 and CPM-S30V steel. The CPM-154 versions are insane performers (CPM-154 performs nothing like 154CM).

Frame lock vs liner lock. The blade is shorter on the zancudo and the handles are thinner by nature of the lock and colored portion are polymer vs the RAT GRN handles. I think they are a great contender for solid user for a variety of tasks.

I really like my Zancudo. Mine flicks open with no issues, locks up tight, and closes without hassle. Let's be honest, this isn't the norm for this knife from what I've read. I've read some complaints about the detention being too heavy and the lock up being difficult to disengage. I just don't see it on mine.

All that being said...
Oh boy...this is gonna be fun...

My Delica is so much better than any of the knives you listed, including my mini grip where (this really is fun) the handle was too short to really work with the knife.

...IMO.

Oh. I recommended this in another thread, but see if you can get a Presidio Ultra. I picked one up a few years ago for about what your budget is and it is a great beater knife that just keeps going.

Honestly though, I think we're on different ends of the knife spectrum. No big deal, we buy what works for us, right?

No big deal, we certainly disagree, but I also think the delica is a great knife  it just isn't what I require right now, but it will still get rotated in. I think we can agree different EDC needs necessitate different knives, the cold steel recon-1 is on the complete other end of the spectrum from the delica, for instance. You've certainly said it more respectfully than other people in this thread. Unfortunately though, with benchmade's new pricing procedures, I'm unlikely to purchase ANY new benchmade with the exception of the HK line, which I'm really rather lukewarm on... And I too have heard of issues with the zancudos, which is unfortunate given the stellar reputation of the RAT series. I has a RAT-1 I "loved" all the way until lock failure.

I've never had one but I gotta say for your requirements, the Knockout is your next knife. In fact, now I want one. I love metal handles.

Buck Vantage Pro for around 55.00 or the Spyderco Manix 2 light weight s110v for twice that. The Spyderco Pm2 is also very nice.

You could save a bit more money and enter a whole 'nother class of knives. Just a thought. When in doubt always go for quality.

The Benchmade issue is frustrating, sucks because they're fun, tough, and easy on the eyes. The Zancudo is worth it to me though just to try it due to how cheap the thing is. My brother got one and his was tight. I opened the knife and jammed a quarter between the scale and the lock, under the ball detent. I then sort of forced the frame lock in the open direction for a few minutes, just kind of back and forth. His is now like mine and works perfect. Flicks open with the thumb nail or opens under control just pushing the stud, and easily unlocks and folds closed with no finger pain (the common complaint). To me, totally acceptable for a $28 knife. I've heard the RAT 2 just works though, so maybe a better choice? I like the frame lock better, so I'd prefer the Z and a bit of tinkering. Regardless, post when you choose.

Of the ones you have listed I like the Kershaw Knockout. It is a lot of knife in a thin package. Good Luck! Kevin

I've been thinking and the knockout is my next knife. It meets too many of my requirements to ignore. I might pick up a zancudo too just to replace my RAT-1. When it gets here I'll post it  thanks for the help and suggestions everybody!

Honestly IMO the buck vantage/ vantage force is an amazing knife for the price I own the vantage force select and it is amazing

EDIT: I also thought to throw in it fills a lot of the criteria you have under bonus

Kershaw Camber fits your specs almost perfectly.
