Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a new knife. I already have a Large Sebenza 21 going into this purchase. It's either gonna be the 0801S110V or the Wilson Combat Startac Zaan. I just don't know which... I like everything about both knives. I'm just not sure I need a Sebenza and a Zaan right now since they're decently similar. Any help?

Umnumzaan for sure!

The build quality of zt is great but CRK is on another level

Plus I found the 0801 a little wide in pocket compared to something like a seb

I would go with the Umnumzaan, but I'm biased as that's the next knife on my list. I just picked up a ZT 0300BW so have scratched my ZT itch for the time being...

Tough question. I'll vote Zaan by just 1 point.

I think the Zaan is a better knife. Mine gets more pocket time than any of my other blades. Had a 0801BW for about 6 months, carried it about twice, fun to play with, just not a great EDC for me. The Zaan is lighter, thinner carries easier, and has a more versatile blade shape IMO.

The Sebenza and the Zaan are different enough to be...well, different.

They are so different its hard to say without knowing more about yourself. Honestly you cant go wrong with either and its really personal preference. Its a tough call given the lack of what we know about your needs. This isnt like lamborghini vs ferrari. This is more like Lamborghini vs Bentley. Two great items with two completely different audiences. I though would probably take the ZT considering you have a sebbie. But I also know a lot of CRK guys who just cant get their head around any other brands after having a CRK. Honestly? I think only you can answer this one and everyone else will be speaking to their own desires rather than yours.

I have a large and small seb and a 0801s110v. The 801 gets more pocket time than the other two combined.

As far as the Sebenza and the Zaan being so similar, yes they are both CRK frame locks. Other than that I believe they are completely different animals, with not much else in common. I actually carry the Zaan a lot more than my Sebenza.

They are about as similar as say... The 0801 and the 0562. Just my opinion.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I know the Sebenza and Umnumzaan are very different. But the way I'm looking at them, they're both S35VN framelocks, and I'm unsure if I need another S35VN framelock on top of my Sebenza when I can get an S110V framelock flipper (which is fun to play with) for a cheaper price.

I also want to keep a little money around for my upcoming phone upgrade and if I buy the Zaan I won't have enough to do so. I think I'm just going to go with the 0801.

You asked for advice...5/7 people vote zaan, you go with ZT lol. Seems your mind was made up before you started the thread. I'm sure either way you'll be very happy with your purchase!

conspiracy!

I have an 801, it's a great knife that you'll probably love-but-if you can hold off on the phone upgrade the Zaan kills it everyday of the week and carries like a dream.

Either way you win, you just totally Charlie Sheen it with the Zaan 😉

That's half true... People pointed out, particularly Scurvy, that the Zaan and Seb are similar in terms of materials. After looking at that I realized the 0801 is a better value for me right now. After I realized that I remembered my upgrade (which I'm really needing. My phone won't hold a charge more than an hour) which decided it for me. I was actually leaning towards the CRK before the thread believe it or not.

I carried two different Zaans for several years, while my Sebbies sat in the safe. I love large Sebs also, but the Zaan is the "tactical" version of CRK...in the blade profile at least. I've been very happy with Zaans.
I've had a lot of ZT's, bought and sold, but I have a definite preference for the Zaan.
Included is a pic of two of my past Zaans. One older model and one newer with LBS. Note that the "closer" one with the lockbar stabilizer has much more "clearance" or thumb-room, which allows one to unlock the opened blade. When I first purchased the pre-LBS model, I had extreme difficulty in unlocking the blade, although my complaint was not shared by most other folks. At one point, I was ready to Dremel away some of the titanium scale, but as you can see, the LBS newer version has already given your thumb more clearance. CRK has done this by using a greater bevel angle on the titanium scale, thus granting more thumb-room. VERY important distinction, in my book. Made it very easy for me to unlock the opened blade. I sold the older version immediately, and have been very satisfied.
Yes, I vote for the Zaan.

Here is another pic to help clarify a little...
