Recommendations for gun safe.

I've been looking at gun safes for years now. I have two kids now and need to lock things down. Only have a few long guns, so shelving is way more important. We don't have jack for selection here in BFE, Mississippi. What do you have? What features would you get if you were in the market now?

When I initially replied to your post, I was thinking you were primarily interested in keeping your "stuff" locked up from your kids. That's why I recommeded the Winchester safe from Tractor Supply. Here is a link to a pretty good review of safes that will point out a lot more options from low to high end. Hope this helps. http://www.6mmbr.com/gunsafes.html

Of the "Gun Safe" manufacturers out there, Graffunder is the only brand I have found to be of similar build quality to a Busse. Yeah, there are a lot of cheaper options out there, but none that will hold up to as much abuse when it counts most. ;)

Yeah, those are insanely tough.......and insanely expensive. If I had the money!!!!

I'm looking at the Rhino Iron Works safes right now, kinda cool but not sure how much more they charge for that rustic look and if they're worth it compared to their other lines. Need to wait till I can check them out in person

Don't know how close you are to Birmingham, but Marks Outdoors always has some great deals on safes.

If you are anywhere close to Birmingham AL and just want to go to a super cool place with an amazing amount of high quality knives on hand go to Marks Outdoors. Last year my family and I drove to Florida for vacation and I had seen a you tube video about Marks a couple months before going to Florida. We made a detour through Birmingham just to go there. My wife wasnt to impressed driving 200 miles out of our way but I was in heaven.

as far as the rhino rustic safe goes the one has 12 ga. body, the other 10ga. weights seem kinda light. amsec had a good model with the bf series, seemed reasonable. they do have better, but too much weight was a factor for me also.

A safe is a good thing. Even a cheapie sheet metal gun locker is MUCH better than nothing.

Buy =something=.

Check with local locksmiths & safe companies about getting a used safe. That could save you 50-60% of the cost compared to buying a brand new safe.

In addition to the safe, I'd encourage you to get a monitored alarm system. Once your alarm goes off, that minimizes the time available for your local crackhead burglars to break into your safe.

Probably not a popular opinion but you can only deter casual thieves.

If what is in your safe is so valuable that someone has to steal it there is nothing you can do to stop them.

Sure you are a home defender, and look out for yourself an your families but when you come home to some a$$holes grinding/drilling/torching your safe you are toast if they are serious....no, you will not give up the combination, you will fight and be brave until they start cutting pieces off your wife/daughter/or other loved one....

Not what anyone wants to hear.

Yeah, I own safes, Liberty and American, but I am realistic and would give up my combinations in a heartbeat if it kept a loved one safe.

I think a safe is a good idea but if you think you are safer with a bank safe or some other overkill think again. You are only safe if what is in your safe is not that valuable. Banks get robbed, armories get attacked and fortresses get assaulted....

....when people are there. When I'm home, I'm not worried about my property.

My concern is when I'm away and a criminal or fire happens.

Bigger is better cuz this will happen...this is the second one!!!!

Roger that. Based on the pic, you are like me in one respect--not much of a shotgunner. No doubt you are a 10/22 fan. I lean more toward rifles that jump up and stomp the shooter in a mudhole.

Dang Busto!!!!! You need a second safe!!! That's overflowing!!!

That is the SECOND full one....I'm working on a 3rd with all my Relics....I have been thinking about a remodel to my shop and want to have the Concrete contractor pour a monolithic reinforced room and I was thinking of putting a bank vault door and making it a walk in then sell off the other safes. I thought collecting knives was going to cut down on the room I needed to secure them...WRONG!!!!! :D

All my Class 3's and heavy hitters are in a different safe with a 150 pound poured lead floor and bolted down it would take a crane to lift that heavy sucker.
