Might as well kill two birds with one stone ...

Spawned from munk's thread, I'm thinking it is time to sit at the computer and shoot arrows at stuff.

Any recommendations for a good medieval video game for PC?

~ and ~

I'm looking at getting a juicer (fruits, veggies, etc...) Anybody have any input? Something strong and easy to clean is all I need.

as always, thanks...

I think first person might be kind of cool. I played the original Doom way back when and loved it. Any of the medieval games I've played since then have been RPG or overhead. Think I'd opt for the change if a quality game was out there.

Although having control of a party/npc's is fun too.

Well, if you are of the criminal persuasion, you can try Thief. Essentially, you spend the entire game hiding in corners from guards, blackjacking them unconcious or shooting them dead with arrows.

The newest incarnation of it is Thief 3.

Bamboo, try Carmageddon. Google it.

It's a video game/juicer.

Two bloody thumbs up!

Ad Astra :D :foot:

I'm going to get Warcraft lll when I can.

Sacred is a lot of fun, but full of bugs. Diablo is inherently frustrating.

Blasphemy!!

Warcraft 3 is certainly worth getting, though. ;)

World of Warcraft is absolute heaven, but I warn you--you can get lost in that world. Not recommended unless you can have someone who'll check on you and remind you to eat and bathe once in awhile.

The best first person medeivalish RPG in human history has to be Morrowind. There are a lot of fantasy elements/magic, but it's very free-form.

In fact, if I wasn't knitting a full-length chainmail gown in real life, I'd be trying to add kukhuri's to Morrowind. That game needs them.

Any Thief game is also excellent, but have linear plots. You have to be patient too.

I've heard Morrowind described as a "Massively Single Player RPG".

I didn't like it so much. The world is big but it feels soulless. It lacked any character development, or even any interesting characters that I really cared about. It's freeform but I couldn't get interested in the plot.

One good thing that Morrowind did was give you a feeling that you were exploring a new world. It wasn't a bad game, I played for probably 20-30 hours before getting tired.

My favorite medieval RPG is Baldur's Gate 2 plus the expansion. I felt that it had a good combination of everything, including challenging tactical combat, and it was very funny at times.

If you want to try a first-person RPG, take a look at Arx Fatalis. I never played it myself but it looked interesting.

Another interesting RPG, Fable, is coming out soon for the PC.

Lemme see, well the Thief series is a good first person arrow shooting game, like others have said. If you don't mind not being in control of every little shot and like RTS games, I might suggest Stronghold. It's a castle builder where you manage your resourses, build up your protection, and train masses of arrow shooting, mace slinging, wall scaling troops. The graphics aren't the best, but this game can be had for 10 bucks at walmart. Play the story mode, or build your own maps and crush the enemies.
Carmageddon is one of my all time favorite funny/bloody/driving games (only funny, bloody, driving game  ) 14 cheese covered rep points for the person that can tell me what cult classic movie this game is loosly based around.
If you just want to shoot arrows AND don't want to buy anything, check out this little time killer. http://games.flabber.nl/bowman/
left click and drag to draw the bow. mouse up or down to aim. Try to shoot the other dude in the head. Great fun

Killer car classic, Deathrace 2000.

Carmageddon is a great game too.

Jake, I think you're talking about the movie "Bullet", actor McQueen-somthing or other, car was a red 1967-68 Charger ( I had a black one at the time, complete with Chrysler 440 wedge and 4 speed ).

Morgane got it right;)

Death Race 2000 is the really crappy racing movie staring David Carradine and a nearly unknown Sly Stalone. As a matter of fact, Sly had just made it big right before the movie was released. They wanted to put him up there as top bill as Carradine was kinda on his way out by then, but they had already signed all the papers that David was going to get top billing. Sly's was a side character anyway;)
Anyone that likes extra cheese with their cheese should give Death Race 2000 a spin. Utterly stupid and unrealistic, but it shows you where people kind of thought the world was going in the 1970's. Had the 80's continued...who knows;)

Diablo was written by someone who understood the inherent frustrations of our modern world and brought us a game which equaled it.

Remember when you were a kid and you fell and skinned your knee bad? How everyone laughed? That's Diablo. Get your character together and watch him die, then wander back over the cursed landscape in a futile effort to pick up the pieces.

Diablo's not so hidden message; "Life Sucks."

A ground breaker for certain though. An epic. But be warned. This is the game for those of you used to watching your inferiors being promoted over you in the workplace. This is Bill Gates ripping off Apple. This is the wonderful girl next door in High School getting pregnant with the School sociopath.

If you'd rather wander a Post-Apocalyptic wasteland killing radioactive mutants and Scientologists with modern weapons, I'd recomend Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. The only games I ever loved. Fallout 3 is rumored to be in development.

Nothing wrong with killing mutants.

My son and I are currently wasting 'split lipped' aliens in Halo l and ll, though.

Munk, I guarantee you'd like Fallout. Tactics is full of large bore revolvers, and If I recall correctly, there are giant mutated bears wandering the desert in 1 & 2. Its a 3rd person RPG by the way, like Diablo.

Thanks all. I'm going to check a few of these out online. I like the idea of building my own castle and army...

Steely, I got sucked into the bowman for a few minutes too long... :D
