recommended $200-$500 knife

thats what im thinking while looking through these customs. jeez i gotta get me one of thoes.

I'm sure you will.
And then you'll get some more production, and then some more customs...:D

Yesterday I pulled out my USN Endura, and I'm liking it again as much as some of my $500 knives, even though it isn't really in the same class by most measures.:)

thats exactly how it is every day of my life. each day you get deeper and deeper into the addiction and theres no way out :D

how about ti framelock custom makers?

Lots of makers on here could make you a very nice titanium frame-lock on that budget.
Look under the for sale by makers section under folders, and you'll see some good stuff come up.:)

ive found a few like Alan Davis and Ray Laconico but other than that not much else.

I don't remember the names of the others (unfortunately...hopefully someone else will), but I've seen some very nice ones by a variety of makers over the years for quite reasonable prices.

NORSEMAN!!!!!!!!!! Sweet knives, and you can see every step in making them!!!

johngrimsmo.com I believe they are $450!!!

I also recommend the ZT 560/561. I have been absolutely thrilled with my 561, it's a little bigger than I thought it would be but it's such a well built knife.

the one im liking the most right not is the Ray Laconico blast. because you guys are right, if you are going to be dropping $500 on a knife, it should be a custom. what about the A10 Hoback?

$200-$500 is a big range. Make it $400 and get him a large Sebbie, plain Jane. I like mine a lot.

i was thinking of getting him a sebbie but people said if your going to drop $500 0n a folder, make it a custom. but that is my back-up

Jake Hoback's knives are terrific. The best value ive seen so far. Theyre built incredibly tough and I use both my folder and fixed blade for just about everything and couldnt be happier. Id say go for the A10, you wont be disapointed.

One of these two:

The Sebenza is a little classier to use at the steakhouse he'll take you to for such a great recommendation.

My friend, take a look at these two folders. I have four Striders; they are nice but can appear a bit too tactical for some folks. I have had ten or more Sebenzas; I presently have four Sebenzas. And note this...I'm at least 20 yrs older than your dad and can assure you that he will LOVE a Sebenza. The small Sebenza is a bit less than 3" blade. The large Sebenza, my favorite, has a blade length of 3.625" and, at only 4.7 oz., is effortlessly carried in a jeans pocket. I love 'em.

What KIND of knives does he like? Big ones? Small ones? You're thinking ZT/massive framelock knife. But is that because YOU like those or because HE likes those kind of knives.

I know for a fact for example that my dad prefers a more subtle knife like a well made slipjoint. Maybe you can tell us a little about your dad. What kind of job does he have? What kind of things does he like to do in his spare time? What kind of taste in clothes/music or such.

A knife is a VERY personal thing and what person one like doesn't have to be what number two likes.

And also forgot to mention Gareth bull makes the warlock and it is an amazzzzzziinggggggg knife! And very classy and elegant
