In reply to both of you. It seems that you are under the assumption that every snake bought ends up in the wild. Fact is they dont. Those are rare and isolated cases. You ask why? Ill ask you; why a knife over 3", why a car that goes over 60 mph, why a dog that ways more than 30 pounds, why a 2 wheeled motorcycle, why a eat exotic foods, why, why, why, the list goes on.

The irresponsible acts of few should not hurt the rights of many. They will start with your snakes, then your fish, then your "dangerous" dogs. Eventually they will limit the amount and who can and cannot reproduce, because after all we are slowly approaching maximum capacity.

I have said enough, back to knives.

I'm all for destroying invasive species on site. It should be done quickly and humanely. I don't think the guy was trying to prove anything. They had a bounty on them. They are large powerful dangerous animals. Now I love snakes and know more than most people about them. I think keeping them should be allowed as long as its done safely. Once out of the house tho it's fair game for me to make a belt out of.

Anybody hear about the guy who got bit by a mamba in Florida? I think it was a while ago.

I got news for all you exotic animal keepers

Any animal ya cant open the door and let out and than call it back aint no pet and they do not belong in captivity

Wild animals where meant to be in the wild

They don't wanna be with you they are being held captive

I have spent a lot of time all over the world and in areas with poisonous snakes and yes they kill people

I know this snake was not poisonous but to a small child it could be just as deadly

This goes for people that keep the big cats and bears you are not doing them any favors except treating them like a convicted child molestor locked up for life and in your mind your doing it a favor

And I thought I would just be able to leave. Jparanee, if you knew anything about large constrictors you wouldn't be saying that, there are animals that I agree shouldn't be caged but large constrictors I would argue can be kept quite comfortably in captivity.

A twenty foot snake is not just dangerous to small children. If that guy had been alone we would be talking about the death of a grown man! A twelve foot snake can be dangerous.

The guy that was bitten by the black mamba was a snake expert. I can't remember his name ATM, He was on jackass though. Not Many...

Edit: David Weathers was his name. One lapse almost killed him.

I once shot a very large Crocidile in Africa

Every woman from the local village came and kicked and spit on it because a Croc that big is probable around 100 years old and has eaten many of there children etc.

See in rural Africa people use the local water sources and a Big old Croc don't care if your an Impala or a child

Over here ya have people saying don't kill crocs that's why there are cities permits on them certainly not because they are not endangered they are protected . There is a difference

People over here don't have to have there children playing around them. The indigenous people there do and they wish they where all dead

So I do understand reptiles I've hunted them

They do not differentiate on a meal

Lay a baby in front of that thing and see what happens

I have a little test for ya take your pet outside and see if he will follow you back home. You are not his friend you are his jailer ....that's it

Always makes me sad to see a big tame lion get loose and some local sheriff pop him but the real idiot is the one that wanted the pet lion

Sure there are animal sanctuaries that take in zoo and circus animals but again I do not believe in keeping wild animals in captivity especially reptiles. They have been programmed for millions of years to do one thing and that is survive

I wouldn't put my child in front of one of my snakes anymore than you would. Part of being a responsible reptile owner is understanding the animal. I understand it does not love me, I understand it doesn't view me as a friend, I understand it can be dangerous, those are the things that make me responsible and keep mistakes from happening. Anyway clearly I'm alone on this subject so I think its time to give it a break, but if any of you would like to continue this conversation on reptiles feel free to pm me.

Long story short, If you see something that doesn't belong here. Do us all a favor. Kill it! Toads, snakes, fish and bugs. Try to do it quickly and humanly.

I shoot toads in my yard with a high power pellet gun. I caught a lion fish last year. I killed it even though I've had them as a "pet". I don't like bugs, So they get a shoe!

Rats get the same as toads! I love living in the country!!

It's not that I don't like snakes

I've just seen what non indigenous species can do

Just look what zebra mussels and hogs have done

Every snake that is born or caught to be kept in captivity has the chance to be introduced into the wild by accident

Guaranteed that snake was not hatched in the wild

It was someone's pet that out grew its accommodations and its idiotic owner released it to give it a so called chance

I know you snake handlers are well meaning and love your snakes but again I love all wild animals enough to wish them freedom and not a life of captivity

I'm sorry if I offended anyone that was not my intent

To me a zoo and the circus are the most depressing places in the world

Folks, This (off topic) thread is now only serving to pit folks against each other here with no chance of the debate being won by either side, so it's time to shut 'er down.
