This is my "Ronin" model.

I call this one "Red Ronin". It is made from A2 tool steel hardened to a 60 Rockwell with cryogenic treatment. The blade is glass bead blasted and is 3/16" thick and 5.25" long with an apple seed edge. The handle is wrapped with hard bound 3 twisted cotton cord with and over wrap of red flat lace and impregnated . I need to put my makers mark on it and make a sheath for it

I wanted to get a picture while the morning light was good

Thanks for looking!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. There are some great people here in shoptalk and I must thank them for all the generous information they share that really has cut down the learning curve for me. :)

That looks good, bud. The colour is nice with the bead blasted finish. My only critique would be with the picture. I would have chosen a different colour for the backing to make the red pop... It doesn't pass the "squint test". You should be able to squint and still (clearly) make out the complete profile of the subject.

Personally, I would like to see that knife protographed on a black/charcoal roof shingle.

Thanks. It was only a quick shot in the morning light since it will be raining here soon. I still need to put my mark on it for it to be finished :)

BTW.... Stop squinting and put your old man glasses on :)

I knew it wasn't your finished pic... just giving a heads up. I'd put my old man glasses on if I could remember where I put the comfounded things, sonny!

drool... can't wait, red worked out niiiiice... lycosa, back off! :D

sloth- You gots yourself a dang nice knife.
Don't worry, I have one on order.

Awesome work! I like the little shoulders you ground in the handle behind the ricasso. Cord on cord can make a Japanese handle bulky in a hurry. Good idea!

I still haven't mastered that damn Turks head!

The cord wrap is as cool as it gets, I really like the way it is finished at the butt. Nice work!

Thanks guys.

Josh, I like tapering the width of the handle and having a shoulder to butt it all up against. As you mention it does keep the handle size down.

Dan, thanks. It took me awhile to figure it all out but it was worth it. I like the way it looks and gives a nod to tradition.
