I will be the blacksmith reenactor at local Fort Delaware for a couple days this year, period is early 1800s frontier I think. Here is my period garb, i'll snag some pictures of the shop too tomorrow. I am new to the whole reenacting thing, it's not so much in character with sayign thee and thou and all that, just generally answering question from school kids and teachers regarding life of craftsmen (in my case the blacksmith) in the early frontier days the Fort originally existed in.

It's a nice setup, and what seems to be a great group of folks, should be a great time!

I remember as a kid the blacksmith being the coolest part of the heritage sites. It is always fun when they make things like coat hooks. Good luck!

Now why did you go and shave off all of that funky facial hair???? You would really look the part with it..:D Have fun and get dirty..

That's what I was thinking! Jeez, you need to scruff up some!!! Good luck and have fun!!!!

Watch out for PC (period correct) nazi's checking to make sure that your buttons are all authentic looking:D

You better get an apron to keep the shirt clean and roll up the sleeves too !! Post the dates so I can take some photos.
There actually was a fort along the Delaware in the area but the exact location has never been found. The local Indians were the Turtle clan of the Leni Lenape [Delawares] but the fort was to protect settlers from the raiding Iroquois .
Sam you'll have to learn to answer lots of dumb questions. You could tell them folk tales of the Catskills too.

I'll be sure to Robert, I am mostly demoing for the special days that the schools have exclusively, and event series called appropriately "school days", but I will be doing some weekends in the summer with the soon to be eagle scout kid. They actually know the site of the original fort, the director lady was telling me they found an old well that was full of artifacts and that is the only remaining thing left. I need to LEARN some catskills folk tales Robert! The dumb questions thing I am used to :) .

The shirt is a loaner (as is the hat and sash) so I of course WILL be wearing the apron, and WILL be growing a beard back also, I mean, who the heck was clean shaven on the frontier anyway?

looks like fun!

I want to do that sort of thing next year at a local reenactment. There are lots of shops that are time specific, and if you hold a shop, you have to dress the part of during the French and Indian war time. (I'd want to be a blacksmith, and I could actually SELL knives there!)

Looks like a great opportunity for you.

lose the t-shirt under the shirt, let your beard grow and get a leather apron

my thoughts as one who's done reenactor stuff
