Reese Weiland Stole $1000 worth of knives from me

It appears that Reese Weiland has a good reputation overall. Aside from this however, I find it odd that he hasn't jumped in already to provide his point of view. Waiting for some modifications to be done on three knives since November 2005, it really is a very long time.

I'm sorry to hear this JWBirch! I hope everything will work out good for you. It's indeed a shame to wait over more then a year on your knives:thumbdn:

Another member has posted that Reese Weiland has had three of his knives, and some knife parts, since October of 2004. That is even more ridiculous.

That's indeed even more ridiculous! It's very sad things like this happen:grumpy:

This is definately an interesting situation, sad, but interesting. That's a big hole of explaining to dig yourself out of if all the facts are there.

Reputable or not, letting this horrible communication (or lack thereof) extend for over a year is inexcusable. If it's not thievery, it's certainly rude, unprofessional, and discourteous. This seems to be an alarmingly frequent issue around here (but of course the ratio of good to bad is still very high), and although there can be some extenuating circumstances, I have a hard time believing that these makers can't find the minute that it would take to secure their own reputations and give their customers a little peace of mind. It's too bad that a lot of people will be turned off to custom knives and modifications by skilled people because they can't spend the time on customer service. It's much easier to just buy from a production company like Benchmade or Sypderco knowing you'll always be treated right and get a great product.

Well said! I think it's simply an issue of guys getting backlogged and getting into a huge hole, but at the same time not wanting to turn away new business.

But letting folks know of the backlog and a follow up status email once every couple of months can't be that hard. If you want the work a long wait is worth it, but waiting a year with no news...? :(

That is a brilliant idea.

Seriously.

I'm going to ask a friend of mine to make a computer program that generates newsletter emails once a month updating the maker's progress, and the customer's status on the progress list.

Wait, does such a program already exist? Can you get excel to do that for you?

i dont know i would even want a bunch of emails concerning progress but it is imperative that folks dealing with me answer the phone/return calls and respond to emails, i dont think thats too much to ask for...........

anything else looks like ya are ducking me, and i dont appreciate that.

Email sent to Reese Weiland 18 December 2006:

Reese, I am a xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with the xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx(Airborne). You have stolen two Sebenzas and a Farid Mahr custom knife from me.

Contact me immediately.

This is the last time I intend to contact you before filing with the US Postal Inspector, your County Sherrif, and other State and Federal Authorities as applicable. You have three of my knives, worth approximately $1000, and I want them back as soon as possible. If you have not begun work on them I hereby cancel my order and request refund of the $100 that I included as payment, minus your shipping costs to be fair.

I have posted that you have stolen these knive from me on several forums, and have received posts from other people that state that you have done the same thing to them. Some of them have sent you knives as long ago as 2004, with no contact from you since. These cases are consistent with fraudulent activity, and since you knew of these circumstances before accepting my order, my case indicates that you had intent to defraud, and willfully defrauded me.

I will not be pursuing an civil outcome, rather a criminal outcome with the criminal penalties that go along with systematic fraud in which you have defrauded multiple persons out of thousands of dollars of merchandise. It is possible that this could become a Felony case. I assure you that I will be relentless in my pursuit of justice.

Sincerely,
John Birch

This has all been said before, but this is the last time it will be said.

Good luck with this. If you don't mind keep us updated I for one would like to know how such things unfold in case I ever need said information in the future.

Bastard. Why can't he even respond? I know that he's aware of this thread. It's really a shame because he HAD such a great rep.

Well, I know Reese, and consider him a good guy. That being said, the only thing wrong with your email was grammatical, ie; a civil, rather than "an civil" outcome, and other such often overlooked nuances of our proud language. I wish you only succes in your reclamation process, and I feel sure neither of us will be unhappy.

I feel compelled to add, I rarely comment on typing/spelling errors, but the rest of your post was written very concisely and correctly, and it's a shame to see a home run go three inches foul.
