Reflections of simplicity - The Sodbuster

I really like mine, just traded it though. I have seen a few carbon steel Soddies from Case and other companies, I might pick one of those up.

After getting one's fill of tactical this and tiger stripe that, returning to the simplicity of a Sodbuster is good. And unlike many tacticool folders, the thin blade and profile of a Sodbuster make it a real slicer.

Case Sodbusters.

that top one looks well loved

Sweet, I've been thinking about picking up a carbon sodbuster. I'm in agreement about the return to simplicity.

I don't have a sodbuster, but I really like this thread. Great lookin' knives gents.

That was really cool of Barber to gift you with that knife bro!

I realy like the straight spine on knives. It is a great all around utility blade shape.

I purchased three Queen Sodbusters from Cumberland Knife Works. Bill had yellow and red (cherry) in stock so I got two red and a yellow. There days I leave the Strider and Hinderer in the safe and grab a Sodbuster. A fine knife...

Lord, please stay at my side, I'm about to show these guys my Rough Riders...
hey they're cheap and they're cute....

I don't know what it is about these knives but they just look awesome.

One of these days I will break down and get one. Thanks for the pics.

Queen has their Country Cousin in D2 steel for just a little more cash. I've been meaning to find one and try it out. Nothing wrong with simple if it works.

Queen makes great knives. I am gonna pick one up soon.

I wish GEC had one. They too make great knives.

I have been really hankerin' for a Queen C. Cousin for a while, and this thread might have just pushed me over the edge. Other than that, I would LOVE a full size Case Soddie in carbon steel. Sadly, they currently only offer the big 'un in SS. I would like more feedback on that big Boker carbon soddie, after more carry and use. I assume 1095? But am curious as to average hardness?? Low to mid 50's??
Queen lists their Country Cousins at 58Rc, which seems a nice balance for a relatively thin bladed folder in D2.

I have no idea man, it just sys high carbon on the tang. Performs alot like cases carbon steel though......

Its a great knife man, Idont think for less then 20, you can go wrong. Ill keep ya posted.

always loved soddies!! i have a few of em now and i plan on gettin a few customs in the future in that pattern!-fed

I just got a full-sized Boker Sodbuster in the mail today. It's my first one in this size, and I'm not sure I like it too much. It just seems a little flimsy. I think I like the Jr. size a little better. Of course, I'm comparing it to a Buck 110 - they're within an 1/8" of each other - and it's just not quite there. A nice slicer, for sure, but lots of side-to-side play.

Maybe this pattern is just a little too large for a slip-joint. It's a half-inch longer than my One-Hand Trekker, which seems pretty tight. Or maybe I'm expecting too much from a $20 knife. Either way, I think I'll stick with the Junior models.

You cant compare a soddy to a 110 man. They arent even close to the same.

Mine is tight, but definatly no 110 or even of Cases quality. With these large companies with foreign manufacturing, quality is probably hit or miss. I like both the large pattern and the small. Not really a heavy duty blade anyways, more of just a utility knife for eating a piece of fruit, whittling, opening boxes etc... I think with the bokers, you really need to be there in person to test a few out.

If you guys are wanting a heavy duty folder of the highest quality, get a sebbie or something comparable. I think part of the appeal of a soddy to me, is just the simplicty, and what a knife is meant to be, a sharp tool to cut with. IMO it does it well, with class.

The small soddys are nice though, and the small yellow carbon one from Case is outstanding.
