Reflections of simplicity - The Sodbuster

I just got finished oiling up my small yellow carbon bladed Sodbuster. Great knife. I'd still love to find a large one in yellow/carbon.

Sweet lord! I got a full sized Soddie in the mail yesterday.. I had no idea they were that big. I absolutely love the design and the size of it.

WOW - I need to say it again, that's a big freakin' folder :) I WANT that Laconico soddie, that thing is gorgeous and if it's as big as a full size Soddie I think I'm in love :)

You cant compare a soddy to a 110 man. They arent even close to the same.

Mine is tight, but definatly no 110 or even of Cases quality. With these large companies with foreign manufacturing, quality is probably hit or miss. I like both the large pattern and the small. Not really a heavy duty blade anyways, more of just a utility knife for eating a piece of fruit, whittling, opening boxes etc... I think with the bokers, you really need to be there in person to test a few out.

If you guys are wanting a heavy duty folder of the highest quality, get a sebbie or something comparable. I think part of the appeal of a soddy to me, is just the simplicty, and what a knife is meant to be, a sharp tool to cut with. IMO it does it well, with class.

The small soddys are nice though, and the small yellow carbon one from Case is outstanding.

That's it in a nutshell, good evaluation. The Soddie is a neat knife, but has it's limitations.

Queen has their Country Cousin in D2 steel for just a little more cash.
Queen makes great knives. I am gonna pick one up soon.

Kind of defeats the purpose of the thread... since Queens are not $20. However, I got a Queen Mt Man lockback in D2 last month, worth every penny and pretty, too. Check it out if you like the soddie style (kind of) with a lock and upscale wood. I see they also have it in a slipjoint model.

But yeah, what's not to like in those Case and Boker knives? One of the reasons I like this part of the forum is that you fellas seem to be on the same page as me when it comes to no-BS "simple" tools and knives

The Queen I mentioned goes for $28, which makes it a bargain in their line. Since I'm cheap, it'll probably be my only Queen.

If I can find the issues, TK did an article on Soddies, Blade did an article on custom knives that get used, one guy had a Tony Bose soddie that he used to carve decoys.

Id like to see that issue!!

The queen for 28.00 is a steal. If its as good as their others, its a big steal!!

Ill sell you mine....

For 10000.00 ;):p

No really, if you come across one on the exchange or from Ray, JUMP ON IT! Best knife I own. The thing is gorgeous, O1, and the spring is every bit as tough as the GECs if you have ever handled one. I love it. I wish I had another so I could carry one and use it, and leave mine untouched. As it is, its my only one, so it does get used, but its the closest I have to a safe queen.

Oh, and yes, its as big as a full size soddy. Just wider, and more robust feeling.
