Refurbish a Buck 560 Titanium

After a lot of WD-40, Q-tips, soap, water and some elbow grease, this is how it looks now.
Someone clearly changed the rivets before (or atleast tried to) and left plenty visible marks on both sides.
Also there is some blade play. Tiny bit up and down, aswell as left and right. Is there a way to fix this without putting new rivets/screws?
The blade seems to be in good condition luckily. Still with a nice tip.
Does anyone know from what year this knife is?

The scales are held away from the blade by the blade pivot bushing. If the pivot rivet is not squeezing the scales against the bushing, there can be some side play. Squeeze the scales in a vise to see if the side play disappears. If squeezing tightens the pivot, you need to peen the pivot rivet while supporting the opposite end of it. Alternatively, you can disassemble the pivot, remove some material from the bushing, and reassemble using a screw set. The bushing should be a couple of 1/1000ths of an inch thicker than the blade.

T tiguy7 Thank you. Do you maybe have a link where to buy the screws and barrels? Couldn't find anything at R.B. Johnson. Aren't there sets where one screw and barrel are already combined in a single piece?
But probably same problem as always. Won't find the right metric sizes here in Europe and shipping costs from the US make it a bad deal for a couple of screws.

To make you guys feel a bit younger. Here is my oldest folder. From 1881.

Nice! My grandfather was about the same vintage. He actually fought in the Spanish-American War and lived well past 100 (as did his father). We don't know exactly how old because his birth records were destroyed in the war. We just knew that he was born before some other people whose exact age we did know.

We should take this off the Forum. If you post your email address, I can notify you when I have it, and you can take it back down.

Found some nice options in the US, but as expected shipping would cost $40. I might just order it in July. I'll be in the US for two weeks and can have it delivered to my hotel.

Knifedonk - I recommend USA Knife Maker. Everything you need in different sizes. Pivot pins and screws. Nearly everything in different sizes. Everything you are looking for and then some. Look under folding knife parts. I hope this helps.

Thank you. They really got everything I need, but $47 cheapest shipping option for $10 in parts won't happen unfortunately  Guess I'll have to wait.

If you will be here in July then that will be the time to order. I know the shipping will be less than $47. Use the extra to stock up while you can. Just a suggestion.
Have A Good Day.🙂 They are located in Minnesota. Right in middle of upper U.S. Most U.S. libraries have public computers to use. Even for a one - time use. You'll have to convert metric to inches that is what they show for all parts 1mm is .03937 of an inch. Almost .040 inches.

Thank you Abe! That's what I will do. Already made a note with all the measurements I need.

I know this thread has been up a while and I didnt read through all of it.
But I suggest you talk to Buck before sending in a 560. They may not have replacement parts for those any longer.
I wasnt happy with one I sent in years back.

Welcome to the U.S.A. knifedonk. You are correct with the measurement comes out to approx .440 so the .437 would most likely be correct. I have take apart 560's and are so easy to clean. I have 2 560's take apart with the Phrobis dolphin stamped on them. Hope your stay is enjoyable.

in the US now and want to order some screw sets
what is the right length? they have .437, .375, and .250
I have measured 11mm so that would be the .437 right?
Maybe someone has done this before and can help me out. Maybe T tiguy7 :)
If you get the .437”, you can cut them to length. The width of the knife is .500” minus the counterbores for the rivet heads. .437” should be pretty close to the correct size.

knifedonk, be sure to post pics when you’ve repaired the knife. I’ve always wanted one of those. And we all like pics.

One of these days I’ll try my hand at repairing a knife. I have a 90s 110 that I broke the lock bar spring on while trying to drill a lanyard hole which I’ve been meaning to find parts for and repair.

Looking forward to seeing your results.
