Spyderco is usually pretty good about listening to the ELU's

Rumor has it, the Military2 is getting a stop lock.

Why not just give it the Para2 treatment? Was the Para2 not a success?

I'd like to see the Military get the same treatment. Leave it mostly the same, but improve the handle/blade ratio and go to a 4 way clip. Add the larger lanyard tube. The bushing pivot system is ok as well, throw that in there too. But don't touch the overall design or lock.

I can certainly respect the stop lock with regards to it being a Spyderco design. But maybe use it on something else. The Military's liner lock is probably the best one I've encountered, why change? I'd hate to see that liner lock discontinued on the Military.

Am I alone in my thinking?

The Military is one knife I think is just right. Even the big leach clip. It make it more comfortable in pocket, and easier to draw.

The millie needs a new lock. There's a ton of locks out there that are better than the liner lock.

I personally think the liner lock is the worst lock currently used in production knives. Most failures/ locks disengaging on accident are from liner locks. They are also slow, require you to put your fingers infront of the blade, are non ambidextrous, and over time tend to lose their lockups.

A new lock, shorter handle and or bigger blade, 4 way clip, and less blade space wasted with the choil would all be improvements I would like to see.

And plus, we've had over a decade of standard production and TONS of sprint runs with the military 1. They will always be available. Id love to see some innovation and better overall product. Innovation is what spyderco does best.

Have you ever had a problem with the Military's liner lock?

Spyderco does the liner lock right imo

Not on the military but on other spyderco knives I have had a lock disengage when I didn't want it to. Ive had several liner locks form different companies fail on me. I just don't trust them anymore. The military's liner lock is the best I have used but I still never really feel comfortable with a liner lock.

I think that sypderco needs to continue to innovate. If they stop pushing the limits then they will cease to be relavent.

There is nothing inherently weak about the liner lock if it's designed and manufactured well. The problem is that there are tons of cheap liner locks out there that aren't either. A liner lock from a good manufacturer (just as a few examples, Benchmade, Emerson, Kershaw, Spyderco) is going to be completely reliable.

There are lots of other locks out there, so if personal preference points away from a liner lock, that's fine, but there are plenty of very strong liner locks on the market.

I agree I love my para2 and would love a bigger version of it.

if the millie was 4 way positionable and had a comp lock on it i would own one or maybe 5 i think that the liner/frame lock setup is overrated as its slow and if your in a rush very easy to cut yourself

that and a non s30 blade something like xhp or 390 or m4 and i would order them by the case

I respect that stance.

Innovate a new knife.

Great line/great response. :D  The potential glitch here is that IIRC Sal is the one who's been saying he's going to use the new lock on the Military 2. On the other hand, we know that he has two good ears and listens well, so opinions on future knives are a good thing. Personally, I like the Military exactly as it is...call me a dino...but I have always wondered why there wasn't a "ParaMilitary XL."

Here's my list of improvements needed for the Military 2:

1. Larger lanyard tube.

I don't want any more holes in the scales and while the stop lock may be nice for lefties it doesn't do anything for me.

A ParaMilitary XL would be cool too. IN elmax too?

IMO, if it ain't broke....don't fix it!! The Military is one of those knives that doesn't need changed. It's fine the way it is.

The millie's handle is about the same size as the handle on my battle mistress. You end up not even using a whole inch of handle.

The mille's handle is also about an inch larger than my fiddleback bushfinger which has a big, full handle.

Compared to the BM 710, which has a very good handle, the Millie is again much larger while having slightly less cutting edge.

The blade is simply too small for how massive the handle is.
