Regarding the Military 2.0

I would like to see the compression lock on the Military but maybe a Paramilitary XL is the answer to that.

...while the stop lock may be nice for lefties it doesn't do anything for me.

I don't know how you can make that statement. No one has seen the stop lock to know if it is or isn't for you. Sure, there is the patent. Which contains fairly vague pictures and description (probably done on purpose so stop locks don't start coming out of China well before Spyderco makes it.) I will reserve judgement until I'm holding one in my hand IMO.

Spyderco is usually pretty good about listening to the ELU's

Rumor has it, the Military2 is getting a stop lock.

Why not just give it the Para2 treatment? Was the Para2 not a success?

I'd like to see the Military get the same treatment. Leave it mostly the same, but improve the handle/blade ratio and go to a 4 way clip. Add the larger lanyard tube. The bushing pivot system is ok as well, throw that in there too. But don't touch the overall design or lock.

I can certainly respect the stop lock with regards to it being a Spyderco design. But maybe use it on something else. The Military's liner lock is probably the best one I've encountered, why change? I'd hate to see that liner lock discontinued on the Military.

Am I alone in my thinking?

I agree. All of the the changes made to the Para 2 would be great on the Millie. The liner lock I am sort of ambivalent about. They could keep the liner lock or put a compression lock on it and I would be happy. I don't use the Millie in a manner where there even needs to be a lock on it. I do nothing but perpendicular cutting with the Millie.

Not sure what a stop-lock is?

I'd like the 4 way clip and larger lanyard too. I'd be fine with a liner lock, but I'd love a comp lock. That and oversize all of the screws and give the pivot a bushing system with both sides of the pivot adjustable.

Speaking as someone with large hands, I love the handle. The handle on the 710 is not ergonomic for me.

I would like a slightly larger blade though.

There is nothing inherently weak about the liner lock if it's designed and manufactured well. The problem is that there are tons of cheap liner locks out there that aren't either. A liner lock from a good manufacturer (just as a few examples, Benchmade, Emerson, Kershaw, Spyderco) is going to be completely reliable.

There are lots of other locks out there, so if personal preference points away from a liner lock, that's fine, but there are plenty of very strong liner locks on the market.
Beat me to it -- this is exactly what I was going to say.

Would love to see a Military with a longer blade. I love the long handle of the Millie and it would be great if the blade was sized more proportionately. Wouldn't mind if the there was a different type of lock system although I am fine with the liner lock.

No, you friggin' heathen.

The millie's handle is about the same size as the handle on my battle mistress. You end up not even using a whole inch of handle.

The mille's handle is also about an inch larger than my fiddleback bushfinger which has a big, full handle.
Us big boys happen to love that handle. Fat kids have a harder time finding comfy knives ya know ;)

Something like this, I'd be stoked with. Bigger, sturdier screws and four-way pocket clip..

I dont mind liner locks. But I do love the compression lock. I am still waiting on a G-10 compression lock Endura 4. Cant believe people arn't more on board with that.

I like the extra length of the military's handle over paramilitary 2, but the part of the handle where my palm comes into contact with can be shortened a little more. The military should also use larger torx screws, and i would prefer pillar construction over the aluminium backspacer. It definitely needs Spyderco's newer clips- the current one is too big and long.

I would like to see a Para 2 with blue titanium scales and framelock. I only have a Para 2 right now; I like the size better than the 4" blade of the military. However, I am strongly considering a Military with titanium framelock. The fluted titanium version seems to be sold out everywhere though. I wish there were more of those available. I love the g10 texture on my digital camo Para 2. I'm guessing I will lose some grip with a titanium version, but they are just so cool to me.

You know the Military comes with those blades already...right? (or did I just misunderstand your statement)

yes but in sprints if this is a manix 2 xl type deal where the first couple years its only in s30 i would be a VERY sad panda and i know nessy agrees with me

oh and elmax would also be a good choice

and sal if you read this here are your million dollar production ideas
1.) para millie xl with 4in CUTTING EDGE and proportionate handle still a comp lock and in any of the prior mentioned steels or one like them NOT s30 or 154 and g10 as amazing as the m390 paramillie STANDARD i am tired of this s30 standardization shoot make it the cost of an endura and give me vg10 but i hate how easily s30 will lose its razor edge

2.) millitary (2) XFLIPPINL (yes i want that to be the real name) same as above but the same scaling up and a lock that is axis/comp lock like with bushings idc if it is the stop lock if i can close it with the same speed and efficiency as the comp/axis also tap it for all four corners and hopefully have an option to have a wave

3.) send me the first couple hundred so i can make sure they work

4.) PROFIT!?!?!

i am more than on board i am the boat for that but only if its GOOD g10 like on the m390 para2 OR really nice and grippy micarta that i would buy of course ffg and waved too

WHAT the comp lock is in ALL ways superior to a frame/liner idk what you are taking a drag on man but i fully disagree work with the two types of locks and you will quickly see when you want to get a job done now hurrying with a lock that causes you to put fingers infront of the blade and cut yourself will only piss you off

You guys are getting way too outrageous with the requests. Don't confuse innovations with abstract uselessness. All these suggestions are good for Sprint runs. The millie is a classic Spyderco now, it just needs to be brought up to speed with the current line. The same strong construction as seen on the Manix 2, Para 2, Yojimbo 2, and so on. IT WORKS.

Pivot bushing
Better screws
Full dual skeletonized liners
Larger lanyard hole
Stiffer slightly thicker liner lock

That's more than enough change I think. There can be innovations on new folders. And by doing that it would actually expand the brand.

Not on the military but on other spyderco knives I have had a lock disengage when I didn't want it to. Ive had several liner locks form different companies fail on me. I just don't trust them anymore. The military's liner lock is the best I have used but I still never really feel comfortable with a liner lock.

+1

My current EDC is a millie and I still don't quite trust the liner lock.

I would like a larger lanyard tube and shorter handle, maybe an inch shorter. Also a more lefty friendly lock and an upgraded steel. It's not fair that right handed people get all the cool sprint run blades and lefties are stuck with s30v.

If you want a shorter handl, it probably won't happen.....thank god. Remember, the military was designed so it could be used with gloved hands. That being said, the military fits my hand perfectly. Thats one of the reasons it's my favorite knife. As far as people complaining about the handle-to-blade ratio- What does it matter other than looks? The handle is for holding, the blade is for cutting.
