regardless of laws, are you adapting your choice of EDC to public opinion

I worry when someone deploys their tacticool whatever with the usual loud snap and showiness , more so if they do that careful look around to see if anyone reacted to their little demo of blade wavin prowess then proceed to trim a loose thread off their digicam tacticool cargo pants .

What I carry personally tho , is suited to what I do . I carry smaller blades , izula II , a few sanrenmus , an opinel 10 , stuff that will do what I have to get done . opening , peeling and emptying packets and critters and fish , spreading nutella and cutting my sammich .

How I use them tho , is pretty much how I do anything , quiet , making it no one elses business but my own .

I guess I'm lucky in that what I like to carry also happens to be socially acceptable.

How about you guys? Are your carrying habits deliberately sheeple friendly?

I may not allow non-knife people to determine what I carry, but I do give some weight to public opinion when I decide what to purchase. I use small knives as EDC. Carrying a large scary/tactical knife would serve no purpose except to make me look like some kind of psycho.

Nope. I never wave a emerson out to get attention or look bad or something but I carry what I want and how I want. Don't like it? Well chances are I don't like you lol

No way, I carry whatever I want but I do conform to the law. The knife laws in oklahoma are pretty good, the only things it specifies you cant carry are dirks, daggers, bowies or automatics so thats reasonable. As far as a "people friendly" knife I dont think we should let other people dictate what we carry just so they dont get nervous or afraid, that would be giving in to what they want and they would probably get rid of all the knives if they could have their way, if we conform to the laws there should be no hesitation carrying what we please regardless of what sheeples think. Just because its a knife doesnt make it a evil weapon of mass stabbing, a hammer is more effective as a weapon but sensitive people dont get nervous about hammers like they do about knives, I assume the reason for that is because of the image that has been created about knives through media the same way that has happened with guns, but i'd better stop before I go on a rant:D

To get this out there I live in Alabama so my laws are if it folds it goes so I may not have much of a reason to post, but I carry my delica, either a paramilitary 2/Manix 2, and either my resilience or my tenacious. Honestly I seem to use my resilience the most just due to the fact I then know no matter what I have to do there is enough knife . I have a zip tie on all of my Spydercos and I think I get more looks over my black on black Manix than any due to the tactical "look" of it.

I carry my Sebenza or Umnumzaan always. Each is in the 3.6" neighborhood. No problem. I don't flaunt my knife; I don't show my Glock.

I carry whatever i like. Open carry is legal and i have a CCW, so i can legally carry any knife i want. The biggest fixed blade i edc is a ZT 0121, usually cross draw at about 10:00 on my left hip(open carry). I've gotten used to two handing my one handers when im in public, it seems more polite that way.

Here in the uk the law and what poeple think the law is are two difarant things ie the only two you can't own are butterfly and flick knives . But the only knifes you can use as an edc is an 3in and under with no lockin mec . So the swiss army knife is legel to carry but if you got it out in public all hell would brake lose . So in the uk you need to be discrete

I pretty much carry what I want to, but I'm pretty rural and nobody cares. About soccer moms, though... I'm a farmer and had a bumper sticker on the back of my previous truck that said

'I contribute to global worming'.

You wouldn't believe the soccer moms that would go off on me at a gas station or a parking lot. 'Why would anyone want to contribute to global warming???! I'd just smile and let them rant and rave til they ran out of breath (and a few of them, that took quite awhile), and then I'd point out the deficiency in their reading skills, and add that worms are actually highly regarded for the ability to sequester carbon.

Not a single one of them ever apologized for their rudeness. Soccer moms...:ambivalence:

Absolutely made my day right here.

My folders range in the 3-4 inch range. I live in TN so that's good. Out of state I tend to check the laws the same as I do carry permits even though LEOSA paves the way for me on handgun carry. As for knife carry out of state I carry cheaper folders that if I throw away, or have to surrender for whatever reason, I won't cry about it.

I usually carry my CRKT Stockman for when pulling out my EDC might be inappropriate. In formal settings, I usually carry my Benchmade 921S. Most people see an nicely shaped, bright blue knife as a curiosity, rather than a weapon. Of course, it does a very nice job opening Christmas gifts or cutting up a steak.

I do occasionally open carry my Cold Steel SRK, which sort of resides the grey area of Illinois law.

I carry what I want. However, I have had some people comment on my "big knife" (Spyderco Endura 4) when they ask if anyone has a knife (to open a box, etc.).

I carry what I want, usually ranging from a PM2 to a ZT 0561. I am careful about when I pull them out and use them, depending on who is around. If someone is around whose opinion matters then I will be especially careful, around people that don't matter to me I don't care so much. I don't act irresponsibly and I follow the law so I don't care what strangers think.

Netshade,

Are you sure you are doing the conversion to inches correctly? 11 inches in overall length is quite big for a folder; it would be illegal in MANY US states, assuming a typically proportional blade length.

28 Centimeters would be quite an intimidating length in lots of places; I'm surprised the Dutch are so liberal with a weapon that size.

I moved from mid-town Toronto to the 'burbs a few years ago and have always carried several folders. On my person is always a small folder or two, usually a Vic Midnite MiniChamp along with a Ladybug or Dragonfly. My "big" folder is usually under 3 1/2" and lately has been one of the following - Kershaw Cryo, Spyderco PM2 or most recently my ZT0566. For the sake of staying under the radar, what I'm doing and where I'm doing it usually dictates which knife I'd use.
