With your dividend, there is also a current coupon for members for 20% off one full priced item.

What gear have you had your eye on all winter waiting for the dividends to be released?

Mine was a second TNF Recon pack that I intend on keeping somewhat clean and firesmoke free. I can't get away from this simple pack. For it size, it's loaded with features. Almost a perfect daypack or even a light overnight pack.
With my dividend & 20% off, I got it for .76 cents. :D

Very nice pack.

I got my rebate for $116 yesterday. I'm thinking about getting an Exped or NeoAir sleep pad for my wife.

I'm thinking on a water purifier. I'm doing half dome a little later this year, and I hear it's kind of a must. And once I'm done, I can toss in my earthquake bag!

Can someone explain how the dividends work? I've been thinking about a membership also but I didn't know you got dividends. Do they add up according to how much you spend each year or is it just based on membership seniority or what?

Thanks
David

The dividend is typically 10% of your purchases plus your credit card dividend. This is from the REI website.

REI Member Refund

Dividendable Purchases From REI
All eligible REI merchandise purchases3 posted from January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2009, less any items returned for refund or credit.

Non-Dividendable Purchases from REI
The following are not eligible for the REI member refund: Sale items; items discounted 15% or more; REI Adventures trips; REI Outdoor School classes; sales tax; postage; and the REI membership fee. Service fees for labor, mounting, engraving and rentals are also non-dividendable. The purchase of a gift card or gift certificate is non-dividendable, but a member refund may be earned by the gift card recipient/holder when the gift card or gift certificate is redeemed.

REI Visa Card Rebates

The 5% Rebate1
The 5% rebate applies to net REI purchases including full-price and discount-price items, REI gift cards, services, fees and REI Adventures travel-invoiced trip payments.

The 1% Rebate2
The REI Visa 1% rebate applies to net non-REI purchases only. Advances, convenience checks, balance transfers, interest or finance charges and fees, credit insurance charges, or transactions to fund certain prepaid card products such as Visa Buxx® are not eligible.

Purchases made after a cardmember's final billing of 2009 will apply to the 2010 rebate. To ensure proper credit for REI Visa card purchases, the name of the primary cardmember must match the name on the REI membership card. Questions about your REI Visa card rebate may be directed to U.S. Bank Cardmember Services at 1-877-REI-8742.

You get 10% back on all 'qualified' purchases. I believe 'qualified' means full price. I was a little shocked when my 1st dividend check was $100, meaning I spent at least $1,000there in a year. I was just gearing up. Another nice thing about membership is you can return ANY item at ANY time for ANY reason. They also send 10 & 20% off coupons throught the year and you have access to the scractch and dent sale.

*Disclaimer: I do not work for REI, but I am a member.:D

I just got the email too, I always forget about that! That place is like a candy store so it will be tough to decide. I will most likely get a lightweight shirt or hiking shorts.

i just got the email too... i think mine is only like $40 or something... if the misses doesn't claim it (like always), i'll probably try and put it towards some new boots..

Going to go for a light weight breathable rain jacket. Being in San Diego I just haven't had the need, but one of these days a summer thunderstorm is going to get me.

I bought the membership (lifetime for $20 is pretty easy to deal with) but never really bought much from them. Even with the rebate, alot of stuff is cheaper elsewhere.

I need some summer clothes. I want a new daypack and a new, thicker, sleeping mat. We'll see how much I get.

Probably a new sleeping pad or bag. Or hiking shoes, need too much lol

we have the same thing here at MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop).....however for the last ten+ years they have refused to rebate our dividends, instead they started supporting 'organizations" and building massive walmart style stores with the money.

I miss the dividends, it was a nice little gear bonus.....

I was going to get a Coghlan's bug jacket and some wool socks, but they don't seem to carry the bug jacket anymore. So now I may put it towards rain pants instead.

I had about $350 in dividends - spent most of it on a pair of trail runners for my fiance and some sanuk sandal/shoes for myself. Also picked up some little odds and ends, like a wireless thermometer to replace one that I left behind at a campsite.

i got $111 back. gonna get a garmin 60csx. that price is looking really nice with the 20% coupon as well.

REI is one of my favorite stores, I opened up a REI Visa card and I got another $50.00 on top of my dividend.
