REK Q fixed blade thread

Been away from the forum for a little bit for Blade Show prep. Looks like I've missed a ton!! Here's a little eye candy while I catch up on the thread!

I have been LOVING the Q! Grinds/designed by Josh, scales by Darren, and a sheath by Chad... That's a damn hard combination to beat!

I’m more and more blown away by this oatmeal micarta. Was there ever any more info posted about the material? I know it’s vintage oatmeal. Is it a Westinghouse made micarta? My pair also has some awesome black/brown specs peppered throughout if you look closely. I can’t wait for them to darken with use to see how they change!

Edit: I tried to get a pic but pictures don’t do them justice!

Sorry for the massive delay! This particular phenolic wasn't made by Westinghouse, but it was a U.S. produced material. The Micarta was made with unbleached, natural cotton duck canvas so those little flecks you see are tiny fragments of cotton seed hulls, and other dark contaminants from the cotton. The really old, vintage stuff made for industrial use was completely focused on function, rather than aesthetics (especially the war-time material), and often has small, organic inclusions. Makes for some really cool character, especially as it patinas!

Funnily enough, the R50 Richlite is the one recipe they made that is of a similar vein. It's made with 50% recycled corrugated cardboard from the Seattle area, so you see lots of little flecks in the material.
