One of the key elements to coming through a Survival situation is to maintain a positive attitude !

The reason I bring this up is that I have noted a current trend on this forum to bash other forum members for no real reason and create a lot of negativity.
If we can't keep positive here on the forum what chance do we have in a Survival situation ?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but can we not be a little less harsh when comparing notes, it is a good forum we have here and I would hate to see it go the way a lot of other forums have !!!
We don't have to lie when we post threads but for example if someone shows their new knife and asks opinions we should try and be more tactful.
For example, someone shows their new Survival knife with an upswept blade, rather than say that sucks everyone knows you need a spear/drop point etc,etc let's be a little positive and say...well I prefer a Spear point for woodcraft but that should make a great skinner.....well you get the idea of where I'm coming from eh !!!;)

Good point, Pitdog!

Unfortunately, I'm Finnish. Asking a Finn to stay positive is like asking the Pope to stop being so Catholic - or asking a Finn to stay sober! :D

Sure, as long you remember my knife rules and yours sucks! :D

I was trying to do that in my other thread but utterly and completely failed, I guess I am not to good at this 2 dimensional conversation, everyone thinks I hate big knives and busses.

I don't hink I will comment on knives anymore good or bad, just use the PC cutting tool when I have to describe something to do with a cutting tool. :D Chris

I did not take your other thread as a hate big knife issue. I think you were trying to get others to think exactly what it is that they need a knife for, not just for the sake of taking it. Maybe I am wrong, but that is what I thought your point was.

but I have to add that anything you carry sucks compared to what I got:D

I don't think many others got it, but yeah you nailed it. Chris

Why wont an upswept blade knife work for a survival knife? I personally think you need to use what you are comfortable with. I used to hunt arrowheads back in Georgia and all the knives I found were upswept.

Whoa !!! Let's not go down that road again, I am pushed for time and just tried to think of a quick example to get a point across !!!:D

It took awhile, but it was like an Uber Girth Busse chopper pummelling it's way through my thickish skull. I finally realized that you hate Testosterone Soaked Survival Commandos. That's what you were saying in your knife hater thread, right?:D J/K;)
Seriously though, I think we all could sit back and take a chill pill more often. The thread was educational to a degree and pitdog is right. We need to be a lot more positive.

Now I see what my nWife's problem is...1/2 finnish 1/2 Danish

Pitdog,

Good point! I think threads get contentious sometimes because a lot people here have significant experience and the formed opinions that go with that experience. You couple that with real passion for blades, you're gonna get some debates. It would be simpler if everyone would be reasonable and see it my way:D.

Yeah, that, and because we come from such different environments. Tools that are effective in the jungle may not be worth crap in the arctic, and vice versa.

Ouch! The Danish side isn't as bad as the other, though, if it's any consolation. All the Danes I know are much more fun than the Finns. :D

PitDog im with you 100%. Some of the threads get out of the way often. Being Positive is very important. The one time where i were misplaced on a hike, I just sat down had a snack and chilled. By the time i finished my snack i figured out where i were. Life is good so smile...

BURN THE WITCH  LOL

Great point PitManDog! I like the controversy though. Let's hear some more knife bashing!

((( :D )))

Pitdog makes a great point! I think everyone will agree that we should not get so opioniated on what we think is the best.

I don't reply most of the time because I feel there is already a mindset on the topic and there is no room for my thoughts.

Good try Pitdog. Won't work right away, but it's a good Think to bring up with the group.

I usually avoid threads with lots of feedback, as I find that most of the interesting points are made early and the rest is usually fluff. Unless I make a point early, in which case I follow along if my point generates any discussion- fluff included!

The forum environment has a competitive nature, the same as real life. People who burn out or lose interest in here probably do elsewhere. Those with either a dry enough sense of humor, a large ego, or a keen enthusiasm for the scene in here are going to stick it out and remain loyal to the community. Or get banned, like a certain Canadian we once knew who frequented this place.

People can get pretty sensitive, especially when they present their opinion to the community, and they get shelled. I think that you get what you ask for, and if you're getting shelled, maybe rethink your social approach. If you are doing the shelling, well, at least enjoy it;)

I never like to see a thread where I had the last word. I'm usually outta there before then.

But your point, Pitdog, about a positive outlook being key to survival is oh so true. And not just a 'survival situation' but for the every day kind too. Life's too short for nickels and dimes.

You know, I love a spirited debate on knives, and enjoy debates on steels even more. I really miss Cliff's posts when talking steels and heat treatments. I find that so interesting, and I have so much to learn about those topics. I just don't like it when threads turn personal, which they seem to be doing quite a bit lately.
