Remedies against a cold

Orange juice, a good soup*, and garlic...prefferably lots of it in a nice thick sauce with pasta.

I consume this stuff regularly and haven't been sick in years.

*You can really beef up one of those cans of Campbells soup by adding more water and lots of fresh carrots (or even canned), celery, garlic, potatoes, more rice or pasta, onions and more spices. I use cans of Campbells soup as basically a can of broth.

Real Ale and any food stuff that is shiny after it is cooked,( bacon, sausages, eggs etc)

Don't know if I get better quicker, But after 6 pints of Orkney breweries "Skull Splitter "
I forget about the cold

and try and remember where I live and how I am going to get there

Airborne tablets.
Chicken noodle soup.
If I'm coughing and know it will interfere with my sleep, Nyquil works wonders.

I used to get evil head colds about twice a year that would last for more than a week. Then someone told me about a simple remedy, and I didn't have a cold for years. When you feel the first symptoms, start taking a large tablespoon of local unpasteurized honey w/the comb in it twice a day. You have to chew up the comb, which is boring, takes time and is mildly disgusting. The cold just never seems to develop. Don't know why it works, but it did.

People always look at me funny when I tell them I take vitamin C and eat hot sauce but when I tell them I haven't Been sick in 5 years they always have more questions.

Pound OJ hard, throw on a pair of sweats and nuke yourself under about 10 layers of blankets. In the morning, take a good shower and rehydrate. "sweating it out" does work for general ailments in most situations for me, usually by the third or fourth night I'm feeling considerably better. OR... you could just go eat some Thai food, shit's enough to unclog anyone's sinuses.

+1 on the thai food - did that a couple weeks ago when I had a killer sinus headache going on.

Get some real quality rest. Load up on vit C and try to get more than enough sunshine for vitamin D3. Drink a lot of water and ginger tea mixed in with some eucalyptus oil if I'm congested. Then just have to wait it through and go through some uncomfortable days.

Agreeing with the rest as well. Solid solid sleep always works great for me.

Treat the symptoms..sudaphedrine, ibuprophen, steamy showers, menthol coughdrops or vicks..rest..fluids and just endure it.

One can stand naked in the cold rain and it isn't supposed to matter...... BUT!!!! it will lower you core temp and can make ones immune system less strong. But if you get a cold, stay away from the Doc!!! All they do is prescribe antibiotics!!! BIG NONO!! All that does is make bugs even more resistant to when we do need an antibiotic. If you have a cold, with fever keep the house temp lower to help lower your fever, no blankets, luke warm baths and Mucinex for any congestion!!! Tea help with some sore throats......... This is all advice from my very own on call kick ass pharmacist!!

LOTS O FLUIDS!!!

Studies have shown that zinc and vitamin C taken together reduces the life of a cold. I have found that this works. I take several over the day for the duration of a cold along with plenty of Scotch, including rum and orange juice.

Ditto on Zicam ass starting early enough you can cut the time you have a cold in half. Unfortunately, their must effective version was the nasal gel which our govt (FDA) recently had removed from the market. We were smart enough to stock up when it was announced.

Some Doctors prescribe the antibiotics when you have a really bad head cold because you are also suffering from a sinus infection as well. In general, you are correct that the over-prescribing of antibiotics has greatly contributed to "superbugs" like MRSA, along with hospitals hiring people for less money who don't understand that degree of cleanliness - to the degree of sterilizing, etc.

If you have a bad head cold and a sinus infection, then something like Zithromycin, "Z-Pack," is appropriate. Some people get Bronchitis or Strep along with colds, etc., which leads to other Rx. It's not just for the cold - it's not for the cold at all. It's like the H1N1 causing secondary infections and people developing really bad MRSA-like bacterial infections while battling the flu. They are giving them oral or IV (if hospitalized) antibiotics to fight the secondary, bacterial, infections and not the influenza.

Zicam is good if you use it as soon as you feel the onset of symptoms, but even better usually is to gargle with warm salt water. If you do it 4-5 times a day, again as soon as you feel you might be coming down with a cold it drastically reduces the severity and duration.

Zicam, lots of fluids and rest.

3 stages of a cold:

1. Sore throat and general achy feeling for about a day.
2. Head cold with runny nose and achy feeling for about 3 days.
3. Cold moves out of head and into chest. Still achy but feeling better.
Cough worse at night. This stage can last up to 2 weeks.

this cold and flew season I've taking zinc & ester c twice a day all who are around me are sick not all at once there taking turns for the past 2 months now my wife is sick
and I've had a low grade cold going for a couple of days so if it gets worse I'll be I'll just stay in bed and sweat it out.and try some of yalls treatments.

pine needle tea. it's loaded with vitamin c and vitamin a, along with some other goodies. add a bit of honey for sweetness, and enjoy. it helps with asthma, and will help clear your head too.

We try to be ready with elderberry extract. Buy it or make your own by soaking the berries in vodka for several days. It keeps forever. Couple of teaspoons in orange juice three times a day. Also, lots of vitamin C and D.
